Friend's shared wedding??

Maria, on May 18, 2016 at 2:19 PM Posted in Planning 0 20

My friend is planning on getting married in September, a month after me =) But since she can't afford a wedding (even though they just got engaged in January) she is going to be doing a tv show where they do shared weddings and they pay for part of the wedding. She couldn't find anyone who would do it with her (it sounded like a bad idea to me) so she's doing it with a couple she doesn't really know!! Even if she was good friends with these people I feel like it sounds like a recipe for disaster. Am I the only one who thinks this??

Yeah I don't like this idea at all. If FH and I couldn't afford a wedding, we'd just elope.

You only get one day, and that day was MY day. Have the wedding you can afford

Im a bit confused, she is going to be on an actual TV show? I have never heard of a show like this. Very random. I guess I don't know why anyone would to share a wedding like that. I would rather cut down on my expenses and have a smaller and more simple wedding rather than do a shared wedding. Just my opinion though.

TV shows feed off of drama, so I am betting that no matter what, she will have a drama filled wedding, if it is an actual TV show. I can only imagine how they will butt heads during the planning, which I am sure that is what the show wants.

Seems like a "WE" or "TLC" show.

Wonder if there will be a twist at the end like...just kidding! Now swap fiances and marry the stranger!

    It does not sound fun.

It sound like it will either turn out great and be very memorable... or a compete shit storm. Either way it's her decision and if they're tight on money... why not. If you feel that way then it's a good thing you didn't do it! But if they're cool with it.... I mean... why not? To each is own right?

I love watching reality tv shows as an escape from thinking LOL they're my guilty pleasure...but to have your wedding on one and to share it with another couple, NOPE. (though real talk, I'll probably watch this show when it airs because it sounds like a train wreck!!)

I used to work in reality TV.

She should not do this. It's not real, it's not fun, and she's going to regret it for the rest of her life.

Agree with PP. My friend was on a reality show and they pieced together her words and actions and broadcast something that didn't happen as "reality"

Not sure if this is the same format but when I was in Germany recently they had a reality TV show where 4 couples competed for a "dream vacation" following their wedding. They had to invite each other to their weddings and got judged by their fellow brides. Whoever got the most points won the trip.

I found it sad to watch. A wedding is something special and personal and I can't imagine sharing this day on TV. I wish your friend good luck if she really goes through with it.

Ya I couldn't do that you already have to deal with a million options and decisions planning a wedding never mind dealing with another bride and groom, no thank you!

Eh, I wasn't heavily invested in any detail of my wedding (except my dress), so I'd do it. And, since this is all hypothetical, I can think of lots of friends I'd do it with. Of course, if it were real real life, I might change my mind in a hurry.
