Friend booking her wedding same date as other friend

Sooo, I have two friends both engaged, one of whom got engaged almost a year before the other. This one has always said she’s wanted a winter wedding. Our other friend is only very recently engaged and recently said she never wanted a big or flashy wedding, a registry office and dinner would be perfect. Fast forward to last week and to a conversation about said weddings. First friend informs all of us that she will be having her winter wedding as planned in a certain month in a few years time. Today, second friend (who is close to first friend!) says she is doing wedding on exact same date, month and year despite knowing about our other friend.
First friend is fierce upset but reluctant to say anything to cause an argument. Second friend has a history of doing this sort of thing so as not to be outshone by others. I think it’s unfair on her part as we’re all mutual friends, how the heck do we choose what to do when the time comes? And why would you want to be in competition with your best friend anyway?!! Thoughts?
