Friday/Sunday wedding vs. Saturday wedding

Gina , on November 26, 2010 at 7:02 PM Posted in Planning 0 32

Our guest list has turned out to be a lot bigger than what we'd originally planned, and we're looking to save some money whever we can. The venue I'm thinking about renting is $1000 dollars cheaper if you have your wedding on a Friday or Sunday. I talked with one of my friends who was just recently married about this, and she said that it would be o.k. and even suggested trying to pick a date where there will be a holiday weekend (like Veteran's day) so doing it on a Sunday wouldn't be so bad. Has anyone done this? did you notice a drop in attendance? is it really that big of a deal to not do it on a Saturday?

My sister did a Friday night wedding and had a great turnout. As a guest going to a Friday wedding vs. Sat made no difference to me. I wouldn't skip a Sunday wedding, but I would leave earlier than Sat.

We had a sunday evening wedding & had a great turnout. it was the week right before most of the college kids went away. some people came 4 days early & made a mini-vacation out of it. I'd go to a wedding on any day. As long as you give your guests plenty of time so they can take the time off from work, esp if you're having a sunday wedding.

I'm seventh day Adventist, so most weddings I've been to are Sunday and guests attendance is always fine, but I'd say u know your guests and should be able to make that decision. I'm getting married a Sunday & we are saving 'cause everybody has discounts for Friday/sunday, if u are looking to save "saturday" is not good. our reception will end at 9 or 10. To tell you the truth, regardless of what day you get married, there will be a few people leaving early bkoz of work the next day, even on a holiday, but if you're worried go ahead & do it on a holiday weekend, as a guest, the only reason I leave an event early is when the party is boring.

We are doing a Friday night wedding on a regular weekend in June. We figured people will still have the rest of their weekend to relax after. I have been to a lot of Friday night weddings, always a big turn out. But in the end it is your wedding, do what you think is right Smiley smile

I am doing a Sunday wedding. It isn't a huge deal since its early. You might not get as many out of town guests though.

My wedding is on a friday. For the simple fact that it's cheaper. the only thing with the whole holiday weekend idea is that hotel are normally more money during a holiday weekend.

But you will def save money on a friday or sunday. I am actually getting all types of discounts from my venue for that reason.

Oh and I think their would be less "partying" on a Sunday wedding if that matters to you. People would be less inclined to party since they have to work the next morning.

I was thinking about either doing a friday night wedding (so people can party the night away) or a Sunday of a three day weekend. I'd prefer the Friday night, but then I was thinking how in the world would we do a rehearsal dinner? And the venue I'm looking at is not in the same town any of the guests live in. It'll be like a 1 1/2 hour drive for everyone. That's why I was thinking it may turn out to be inconvenient. Honestly I wouldn't mind if a few people decided to back out for that reason. Our guest list is too large anyways lol!

Were doing ours on a Sunday for the same reason. My price difference from a Saturday to a Sunday was a $2000 difference. And if your worried about doing it on a Sunday my issue is worse cause I just recently found out that our day falls on Fathers Day lol sooooo let's hope all my guest show up. I'm trying not to worry cause if u keep worry and neither should u. Do what fits in ur budget and don't do it to make everyone else happy.

Just a warning, a lot of places consider the Sunday as a holiday weekend to be similar to a Saturday, and therefor charge Saturday prices. Just saying what I've seen, not sure how it is in your area.

Jewish weddings are almost always on a Sunday. So long as you have it early enough so people can get home afterward in time to go to work on Monday (or if Monday is a holiday), you should be fine.

I am getting married on a Friday evening. I have always wanted to get married at night anyway. I dunno why, I guess because I like the way the light looks with candles. We aren't getting a discount for it being on a Friday either, but other vendors offer discounts whic is a plus!

Actually i read in a wedding planner book that sundays and wednesdays were cheaper cause on fri and sat are the weedends so alot of people charge double cause of that. so when i picked our date and i found out it was a sun i was fine with it cause i knew i would save some money. even the hair and make up lady i'm going with gives you 15% off for having the wedding on those days. so if you have enough time to change it go head, cause $1000 dollars off is a lot of money

I am saving $4000 just on my venue for having it on a Sunday! We haven't heard any complaints yet and we aren't all night party people anyway so our reception will end around 9:30-10. I have also heard Sunday weddings on holiday weekends are same price [if not more] than regular Saturdays, so definitely check with your venue and vendors! My DJ is the only other discount I've found.

I'm doing a Sunday wedding on Columbus Day weekend. We're starting at around 2:30 and finishing up around 9. Hopefully, most people will have the next day off of work and if they don't, we're ending early enough that people won't get home too late.

I'm having my wedding on Sunday. I am Jewish and in Judaism you cannot get married on Sabbath (aka Saturday) so I had to either have the ceremony and reception on 2 different days or have it all together on Sunday so I chose the Sunday options. Originally I planned to have it on a long weekend so people wont have to work the next day but the date didn't work out so I'm having it a normal Sunday. I'm planning the ceremony to start around 4ish and the reception to end between 11pm and midnight. Some people will leave early natural cuz they have to work but the people that matter will stay till the end Smiley smile

@Singing Diva, nice to know I was starting to think that I was the only 7th day adventist here.

@Gina, some people dont do rehearsal dinner with all their guests, so it wouldn't be a problem if you just do it with family & close friends that can make it, & some others don't do it at the venue so you can always do it somewhere that's closer to everyone. Just a thought. I'm looking to save money, so no rehearsal dinner for me, just ceremony rehearsal with BP and family & then we'll go out to eat

I say it depends... if you have partiers or older crowd. Friday evening for younger crowd they wil want to stay and party, sunday if its older who wont stay out all night! Mine is 6pm on a friday, since I know our friends want to party and take advantage of our open bar!
