It's good to hear positive comments...people give me the "bug-eyed" look when I mention that my wedding is Friday the 13th...but then I tell them that my birthday fell on Friday the 13 this year...and I'm never sad about it cuz its my Bday...so why should my wedding day be any different

If you know the legend of where the friday the thirteenth thing came from, it's not unlucky-unless you are a knight templar. When the pope excommunicated them from the church and ordered them hunted down (and exterminated) it happened on a Friday that was the 13th. That is where the origin of Friday the thirteenth being unlucky. It's just a date, and it's only unlucky if you believe in it.

One of the reasons we married on a Friday last year was to avoid having an anniversary that just might fall on a Friday the 13....well, that and the dude's first wedding was on the 13th of a different month. So we went with the 12th instead.

    1) Like Jenny said - it's the people not the date that will "doom" a marriage

    2) What Soon to be mrs K said

    3) If someone wants to be ridiculous and tell you that your wedding is doomed because of the day it falls on, make sure you tell them that the Friday the 13th that they consider to be such "horrible bad luck" actually only goes into effect the month of October, not ANY Friday the 13th.

    4) If after all of ^^ THAT ^^ is covered, and someone still want to act like a silly superstitious 11 year old girl, tell them you plan to cancel out all of your "bad luck" by marrying underneath a ladder, breaking mirrors at the end of your ceremony, and having a black cat release for your send-off.

That ought to shut everyone up about your date Smiley winking

    There is a "like" feature....

And I got married on the 13th, knowing that my anniversary will fall on Friday someday, not a big deal...

Please update your avatar so we can remember you in the future! The default rings could make you get lost in the crowd. Smiley sad Here's how to do that and more: https://www.weddingwire.com/wedding-forums/new-to-the-weddingwire-forums-please-read-before-you-post/b433c40c1a62b96a.html

We considered is as our anniversary of meeting is 12/13 but in the end we had to move our wedding up because of my Dad's poor health. My concern was not wanting anything with a negative vibe being related to our wedding.

I agree that its the people, not that date. I have never been superstious about dates before. My Wedding was not on the 13th but my Rehearsal dinner was on Friday the 13th. We made some jokes but I don't think anyone really cared or notice. It was a pretty good day.

I'm getting married on the 13 and Me and FH do not think its bad luck at all. to the contrary we think its good luck. Some cultures like in Egypt, there are thirteen steps upon the ladder that leads to eternity. Upon the thirteenth step it is said the soul reaches the source of itself and attains spiritual completion.

one may also consider the opposite, and recognize the enlightened guests, Christ and Baldur as the thirteenth entities. This brings about a heightened perception of the number and lends symbolism of:

    Ascension

    Resurrection

    Enlightenment

In ancient Greece Zeus was counted as the thirteenth, and most powerful god. Here the associations of Zeus give the number thirteen symbolic meanings such as:

    Totality

    Completion

    Power

    Realization

    Attainment

From a numerological perspective, we first recognize the presence of the three. Symbolic meaning of number three is vast and powerful. At its simples, the symbolic meaning of the number three deals with:

    Creation

    Completion

    Order

    Advancement

    Mystery

We then recognize the presence of the number one, which precedes the number three. This amplifies the preexisting symbolic meaning of the number one, which deals with:

    Beginnings

    Initiation

    Solidarity

    Unity

    Birth

Singly, these individual number meanings put together tell a story of a path that is just beginning (number one), and will lead to greatness in the expression of the union of opposites (number three).
