Friday Summer Wedding or Saturday September wedding

Tiffani, on June 27, 2019 at 6:01 PM Posted in Planning 0 11

So I am in a bit of a pickle and am seeking some help. I am getting married next summer at a mostly outdoor venue (there are some covered areas- including the dining tent, dance floor, seating) but a majority of the venue is outdoors (there are volleyball nets- large field etc). ANYWAYS so I live near Seattle and weather can be a little unpredictable- but it is definitely the most safe end of July early august.

Our venue has one Saturday left- September 19th (historical data is avg 65 degrees) or we can do a Friday- August 7th ideally. (It is our dream venue and we love it- so we are not willing to change that)

We are really torn between the inconvenience of a Friday (we both will have no problem with work and all immediate family can make it no problem) for guests (especially Seattle Friday traffic oof). Or risk crappy weather....

Any input from a guest perspective/other Friday and bad weather brides would be really helpful!

I don't think Friday is bad! Because people are ready for the weekend anyway and they can party and be fine for the next day. I think it's moreso inconvenient if it was any other weekday but Friday seems fine to me

I think Friday is good. People can generally get off half day pretty easy and can avoid traffic that way. As they're ready for the weekend. It totally works!

I would usually say no to Friday wedding but with the weather I’ll probably pick Friday instead of Saturday if it has a less chance of rain.

I’m all for better weather options (as long as you have back-up options which seems like the dining tent should be fine). But... isn’t traffic in Seattle insane??? How many guests will you invite? I think if less than 50 or 75 close friends & family, probably ok. But if 150+ extended friends & family you may risk a lot of declines or late guests.

Go for the better weather option and give people plenty of notice. Friday is the start of the weekend so if people have to leave work a little early as long as they know well in advance it shouldn’t be a problem.

We will have around 200- however with that being said thats a lot of people to have to pay to cover if it rains. So we are leaning towards the friday and setting our RSVP for ceremony + reception and just reception. That way people that cant get the time off dont feel rushed. Thanks for the help Smiley smile

I don't love Friday weddings because it causes an inconvenience to guests - having to take off of work or at least leave early. That being said, Friday weddings are typically significantly less expensive than Saturday weddings and, if budget is a big factor, it could really help with cutting costs.

We are invited to a wedding on a Friday this fall and I see no issue with Friday weddings. We’ll even be traveling a little over an hour because the couple decided to get married in Rocky Mountain National Park, so we’ll be dealing with tourist traffic and just plan accordingly.
