Freesia – Will the wedding party hate me?!

ENG, on December 15, 2016 at 3:47 PM Posted in Planning 0 9

We're pretty much only doing flowers for bouquets and boutonnieres and I want to keep them visually simple, using only whites and greens. I'm loving freesia right now because it's has some interest with looser stems and doesn't feel stuffy when bundled into a bouquet.

Freesia smells great (to me) and I'm not too worried about the Bouquets since they will be away from the table once we're seated for dinner. However, do you think freesia is too scented for a boutonniere with only a few blooms?

I would make sure that no one has any allergies or is a migraine sufferer. Freesia is beautiful, but the scent is strong.

Are any of them sensitive to fragrances? If so, I would recommend against selecting anything with a strong scent.

I am going to vote against it. As someone who suffers from margarines, that's a huge no for me.

Check in with your wedding party. I asked all the BMs and GMs if they had any allergies or sensitivities I should know about before we finalized things with the florist.

I LOVE freesia and I think it smells good in small doses, but it smells strong and strong smells make me sick. I'm not sure if the bout would be too much, but if all the bouquets were freesia I'd probably throw up by the time pictures were done

@Fall Bride, I've never heard of those before! It looks like they share a similar bloom shape but part of what I love about freesia is its greenery as well, with the little buds. I'd love to see your bouquet and the boutonnieres.

This bout with stephanotis looks similar though and I like it a lot.

I don't like the smell of freesia personally so I wouldn't risk it. It makes me think of Devils Wear Prada as well.

As someone who just looks at something the wrong way and gets a migraine, I would suggest just checking with people about how they handle strong scents. Depending on what it was I'd either admit that it might give me a headache (which I would feel bad about because I don't want a bride to not have to get the flowers she wants because of me) or (what I'd most likely do) just suck it up and make sure I had Excedrin that day.
