For those doing a Anniversary Dance...

Tammy, on March 19, 2015 at 11:49 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 29

What song or songs did you use?

The majority of our guests are older and married, (Mostly being in their 40's or older), so we are doing the anniversary dance and then giving the longest married couple my toss bouquet and a nice bottle of wine.

We will have to have at least one song, maybe two, but I'm not really sure what they should be. I'm thinking maybe some Sinatra or something like those lines. Or even an older country song, even though that is not my flavor of music.

Anyone with some suggestions as to what would be appropriate or what songs did you have?

(FH family is on the conservative side)

We are using a newer country song. Brad Paisley - Then.

Christina Perri a thousand years is always popular, something slow (obviously). Ed Sheering Thinking Out Loud is a newer popular song. You can ask your DJ for suggestions

I haven't decided what we are going to use yet. Did you have a second choice first dance song? You could use that.

We used "Just Look at Us" by Vincent Gill. It skews a little country but it is a favorite of my mother's and the lyrics are lovely.

    Thanks for the suggestions everyone!

@Tania An 1 hour and a half?! I would have got up a left too. That's crazy.

We will probably start ours at 5 years, as that will cover everyone except FH and I and then move up by increments of 5 years.

FH and I were actually trying to do the math and somewhere in the 30+ years was our top married couple, so hoping to get this done in one song, but also don't want to just rush people off the dance floor after 15 seconds of dancing.

Oh and another question: I was thinking of doing this right after FH and I dance and BP dance, Is that when it should be done?

((Heading off to You Tube to look up some of these songs))

We did Frank Sinatra, I don't remember what song. I love big band music. H hates it. So that was my 1 chance to get it in Smiley smile

I have heard "Through The Years" by Kenny Rogers and I used "Biggest Part of Me" by Ambrosia (it had significance to DH and I so that is why I used it). I gave the couple that was married the longest my bouquet (I knew I didn't really want to keep my bouquet so it was a great way to gift it to someone).

We are using "true companion" by Marc cohn, it's my parents song that they wish had been their wedding song so it seems appropriate, maybe use one of your parents wedding songs?

    Thanks Wendy C.

I was thinking the same thing about it being a good way to get people dancing and also thanks for the Alan Jackson song suggestion. I really like that one. I think the song could really encompass the thoughts/feelings of our older guests.

I'm thinking of using She by Elvis Costello, Someone Like You by Van Morrison, or Promise Me You'll Remember by Harry Connick, Jr.

Norah Jones has some great love songs and (almost) everyone can listen to some smooth jazz for a few songs and not hate it (this is coming from a life long metal head too!) My favorite of hers is come away with me.

I've got a huge list of jazz love songs on YouTube if you want me to post the link... I created a playlist of all the Jazz songs I'd like to have played at my wedding. There's also an old song about these old wedding rings that is soooo sweet and brings tears to my eyes. I can't think of the name off the top of my head, but I'll find it and post it.
