For My poc With Natural Hair (super Short/afros)

Jasmine, on August 5, 2020 at 8:00 PM

I did my first big chop within the last few months and now I have absolutely no idea what the heck to do with my hair for our engagement shoot next week or our wedding in February. Did you guys stay natural or get fully dolled up?? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Right now I'm using Shea Moisture. I'm definitely keeping my make up simple. At least for the engagement shoot. I actually don't have a styling gel. I was told to get like a curl activator (which I have yet to find).

LOL. Yes but for the random times I do decide to wear make up I am good to go. I know I will bring for the honeymoon lol.

Funny, when traveling, I'm a minimalist. I have a mini eyeshadow along with my standard norm kit Smiley smile

Depends. We are gonna be at a result where we will have nice dinners and stuff like that so I figured just to get done up on occasion. Now if we are still able to go travel and see Chichen Itza then no I do not wear make up. If I am traveling around like crazy then I do minimal make up (usually eye shadow and lip gloss) but for doing not much but sitting, drinking and eating at a 5 star place then yeah why not lol.

HAHA, I get it. my minimal includes primer, foundation, bronzer, mascara - these are my daily staples I live by. I figure for the wedding I'll add eye shadow and real blush. LOL... -

I am going full make up including lashes for the first time. I want a natural-ish look but I am even going to get air brush make up. Smiley smile

Yeah, I think she kind of wanted to have an updo because that's probably what I'm getting, but she's very excited about it and I think it's going to work really well.

I think you can rock a nice headband with your twa (teeny weeny Afro) for your engagement shoot next week. As others have said, 6 months is long enough to notice substantial growth for you to possibly do an updo with Marley extensions for a more natural look. I chopped my hair (again) in May and now I have enough growth to pull it back and maybe do an updo. See my before and now photo. So yes your hair will grow...if you are not scissor happy like I tend to be . I had to change my hair and mua so now I have a trial with my current length next week (a month before the wedding). I am leaning toward a halo/goddess crown braid since I found YouTube videos of women who pulled it off with very short hair and extensions.

Shea moisture is a great product line. for a curl activator you could go with eco style gel or wetline gel. both work great for activating curls. you can find them in most walmart and target stores. if you want a more natural product, camille rose, mielle organics and uncle's funky daughter have some nice curly gels

How about finger waves? You can hot comb or blow it out straight if you’re planning on staying natural by then.

You are only getting married once so go full on glam. Whatever glam means to you.

You could subscribe to a natural hair box like Curl Box. It's about $25 a month and you get different products to try for your natural hair. That way you can try out what works best for your hair and go from there. I did the big chop 3 years ago and used Curl Box and followed other natural curlys on instagram to see what products they were using as well.

Thanks! I'm now looking for some kind of hair accessories but others made a good point in the change of my hair length by the wedding so who knows what will look best when the time comes.
