For My poc With Natural Hair (super Short/afros)

I did my first big chop within the last few months and now I have absolutely no idea what the heck to do with my hair for our engagement shoot next week or our wedding in February. Did you guys stay natural or get fully dolled up?? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

As for natural hair, it’s really all about product. You can get the looks you like in the pictures above if you find the right product — but it’s all about trial and error. I can’t tell you how many products I tried before I found what I liked. If you have friends who are natural, ask them what they recommend and ask them to try some of their products before buying $10 to $20 jars of product that you may not like and will end up on the trash. For the purpose of your photo shoot next week, you’ll have to do what makes you feel comfortable, but your short fro looks cute on you. With simple accessories, a bold eye and nice lip color, you’ll be camera ready!! And for the wedding, you’ll just have to play around with different looks and styles until you find what you like - you have plenty of time. 😊

Okay so 6 months from now your hair will not be that small curl fro anymore. After you do your big chop, your starts to grow like a weed, because you’re not handling it a lot and it’s getting the moisture it needs and plus your hair is healthiest in its natural state. So you are going to have to wait til about a month before the wedding to see what stage your hair is in.

I think at Mac you can buy any product and they'll do your make up so maybe you can get a lipstick but call and ask. Also here is a simple make up tutorial I think you would like to help you do your own make up? What will you do in regards to hair and make up for your wedding?https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HtNdCP_17hw

I kept my hair natural for our engagement shoot. washed and applied eco style gel to get my curls popping. for the wedding i have some extensions to add for some drama but will be keeping the same natural look. i had a makeup artist for my engagement shoot because i do not trust myself to do my own makeup well enough for professional photos.

Welcome to natural life ! You look great.

My advice would be say wait, your hair could be a completely different length come February! Just learn your hair for now and see what products you like but also keep in mind that Natural hair grows fast ! But the PP already gave some great suggestions ! but also in February your hair might be long enough to do braids if you don’t want to worry about doing your hair the day of the wedding.

Thanks. I'm on my second batch of products lol. I'm not exactly sure how long it should even take for me to notice any difference as far curls coming in. I know different people have different routines so I have to find my own in that aspect too. It's so much to take in lol.

Very true. I didn't even think about that. I need to find a routine to get into. Like one friend washes twice a month and co washes every week. I already feel defeated cause I have no idea where to start lol

I styled my hair myself for my engagement photos. I have been looking up inspiration on Pinterest and I found some flat twist updos that I really liked and I tried them out before I took my engagement photos. I did this a few weeks before and if I had trouble I was going to ask my cousin for help.
I know for my wedding I’m most likely going to get my hair professionally done since I want a vintage inspired hairstyle to go with the dresses but I’m trying not to do anything too drastic since I don’t normally do anything creative with my hair or make up.

ONLY on your second batch?!?! Lol! I wish I had a picture of all of the products I gave or threw away before I found what I like ... and I’m still open to trying something new if someone suggests it. Lol! There is no set time ... it took me a couple of months. You’ll come across something that works for you - I promise.

And as for makeup, like you, I’m a chapstick kind of girl. Like PPs suggested, I would recommend going to Mac or Sephora to have them do your makeup for your engagement shoot (call and make an appointment) — easy peasy!! They can do a nice, natural look that will make you “pop” in photos but still have you look like yourself and the products you buy will actually be something you will use (the lashes for the shoot, a nice lip gloss, eye shadow, etc).

As far as make up. I would do something a little more natural looking. This is one of the photos I was talking about from the shoot I had like 10+ years ago. I think it was like 2007, maybe. Sorry for the terrible quality. I don't have the original anymore.

Yea I definitely don't have time to do anything to bring my curls out in 5 days lol and like I told someone else, I'm feminine challenged. I don't even own make up lol.

Thanks! I'm stressing myself out cause I have no idea what routine I need to get into or which product will work for me. I started with cantu and heard it's pretty trash so now I have shea moisture, I think lol. I don't know how long I should be using products before seeing my curls come through.

Thank you! I'd like to. I just have no idea what to do with it. I know it's trial and error but I have no idea how long I'm supposed to use a product before I see my curls come through or if they even will come through.
