Food

Hailey, on February 27, 2021 at 2:00 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 26
I love the idea of having a food truck at the reception. Not having a traditional buffet will take up less room at our venue but my fiancé brought up a couple concerns with it. He is concerned the truck will be to loud and will be disruptive during the ceremony. Also, if we have inclement weather it would be less than ideal to have our guest go outside to get their food. Has anyone had or been to a wedding with a food truck?

Even the most experienced food trucks take a long time to serve people. I would be more concerned with that than noise.

I definitely don't recommend buffet any time soon because of covid. I never been a fan of potluck or buffets styles, any type of self serve at any events bc of germs and how inconsiderate ppl are. I can remember eating at a buffet restaurant and a woman coughing all over the food 😞 never been to a restaurant like that since then.

I went to a wedding where the couple had a food truck! It was really cute and the weather was perfect. The ceremony was situated outside around the back of the hall and the food truck was situated out front. I never noticed any noise coming from it, but if the proximity of your ceremony and the food truck is closer that definitely may be a concern.

Additionally, we were considering a food truck at first and upon researching, we found that some of the food trucks/caterers also offered buffet options (though I do think that upped the price a bit). Perhaps see if some of the food trucks that you’re considering can offer that or another option as a contingency plan?

I haven’t looked into any specific trucks yet but that will definitely be a question I will add to my list. Someone mentioned the slow service of the food trucks. Was that an issue?

Only 2. One at a beach on a lake, where they pulled up next to the reser ed picnic area, 100 yards or so ( football field distance) away from the cemetary. Clamcakes and fried shellfish. Yum. The other was barbecue on a rainy day. They went out to buy a tent overhang so people had a tent roof and sides when they stepped out in 45 degree pouring rain. Good food, but not a success.

I think a good truck could be a very good idea. We went to a backyard wedding a few years ago and their taco truck was severely late. They had to run out and get chips and salsa to hold people over for a while. Then when they did show up, lines we long to get the food. Tacos were good though.

Guests should be served as quickly as possible. Food trucks are not designed for that. Most are only able to serve one at a time. You could easily have some folks done eating while close to 2 hrs later others are still waiting to be served.

If your having a small wedding I think a food truck is great but honestly they aren’t ideal for big weddings because even the food trucks take a long time to serve.

Your fiancé brought up some good points. How big is your wedding? Does the food truck incorporate your wedding vision? I’ve been to a vow renewal & they had a food truck- food was great but it took a long time to get our food.

Service was a tad slow. I was part of the wedding party so fortunately we were served first (it was a taco truck with four selections), but it took a solid 10 minutes or so to get our food from when we placed our order. It was a wedding for 100 people so although I wasn’t paying too much attention, I’m sure that did take quite a while for everyone to get their food and go back to their seats. But the hosts also did a great job of having other appetizers available before the main meal as well. If your guest list is smaller and you limit the options available from the food truck, I’m sure it’s more manageable!

Use an actual caterer instead for that number.

I think a food truck would be fabulous for a moderate-sized casual wedding of around 50 or so guests. If you plan to have more than 50 guests, then I wouldn't recommend it unless you're planning to hire multiple food trucks. As a PP mentioned, food trucks aren't designed to feed a lot of people quickly, and you'd end up with long lines of people waiting for their food.

Food trucks are great for smaller sized groups, but with that many guests you’d honestly need 3-4 trucks to serve everyone in a reasonable amount of time. If that isn’t an investment you’re willing to make, I’d make sure to understand how long will take to serve everyone. If you had 180 guests, and it only took them 20 seconds to serve each guest (which is completely unrealistic) it would still take a full hour to get everyone served. Not ideal.

For your size wedding, a food truck could be disastrous. Love food trucks, but significantly slower than buffet or plated.

At a staff appreciation luncheon, our boss hired a food truck for the 50 of us and it took forever to stand in line/get food. The first 10 people in line were already done eating before anyone else got food and sat down. It was a kind gesture, but disaster at the same time.
