Food Truck at a wedding!?

Courtney, on February 12, 2014 at 3:28 PM Posted in Planning 0 19

I'm still trying to figure out catering for my wedding! Procrastination at it's finest I know...

We don't have the biggest budget so we're trying to think outside of the box. How many of you are using a food truck? If you are and don't mind answering, how much are they? I've been searching and I'm still waiting for an emails back from certain ones. Do you think a food truck will be a good idea for a wedding?

I think it could be a lot of fun, but you'll want to make sure they've done weddings before and ask for references.

There was a bride on here once upon a time last year that did different food trucks at her wedding. She said they were a huge hit.

It seems like it would be a lot of fun! I just want something different and I'm having about 65 people so I'm trying to see if one would be enough. I'm considering two that way there's a different variety of food.

I am! We're getting an Italian food truck. We set up an appointment for a tasting on a whim and they ended up being amazing. I can't stop thinking about their food.

We're having a buffet style reception and they're also doing our cocktail hour for 100 people for $22/pp plus server fees.

We are using a food truck. East Side Kings Price it was similar to using a regular caterer.

I am having a food truck at my wedding! We're doing a Mexican food truck at $10 per person. Pretty good right? Where exactly are you located. I'm in Houston and we have tons of food trucks.

My friend is doing what could be considered a food truck for her wedding. I am not exactly sure of the price but I believe it’s under $10 PP.

I like it better for the afterparty than for the whole wedding, or maybe a one station with other stations along side. I can't see having one truck as the only place for people to get food; it would be a fun and funky touch, but not for the whole thing. Just me.

The main perk for us with getting a food truck is that we don't have an onsite kitchen since our wedding is at a barn. The cost generally is way cheaper which also doesn't hurt.

Thank you everyone for your input! It makes me feel a lot better that people are actually using food trucks for weddings!

Krystal - We're in Florida, the wedding will be in Tampa.

Kristen - With the buffet style reception how does that work with the food truck? Do they set it up and have the food out or would your guests be waiting in line for the food at the truck?

My parents are still a little uneasy about the whole food truck idea but FH and I love it! Its so different and so much cheaper than having a fancy caterer. We were all about the fancy catering but when we started quoting and reviewed our budget, it just seemed like the better choice for us. Also, the venue that we are having our wedding at is a bar on a regular night and has a stone pizza oven built on the front patio. They are awesome! We are having them serve pizza for a late night snack. Plus, the food truck that we are using is there on a normal bar night and wedding, so they are used to serving big events. Our whole wedding is going to be a little different than what our family is used to but we hope they get the concept we are going for.
I actually found it while looking for a photographer and so glad I did!
The venue:cheaper! The food truck: cheaper! Being a bar, already has a full bar: cheaper! (No outsourcing for an expensive bar service) And being that it is a bar that is originally an old vintage kraft house, totally fits our modern vintate theme. My parents are still trying to talk me into a reception hall, and all that good stuff but FH and I are set and doing it cheaper an

And more fun the way we want!

This is the link that made me fall in love with the venue! And introduced me to the whole food truck idea! This couple had a beautiful wedding there!

My future brother- and sister-in-law had two food trucks at their wedding. My fiance HATED the lunch food truck and complained about it endlessly, but honestly ... it was a BBQ truck and he's a vegetarian. I thought the food was fine. And the cupcake truck was The Best Thing Ever.

For the BBQ food, some of the food was set up on a picnic table like it would be at a buffet. You walked over, took a plate, napkins, and flatware, and then you could get some mac and cheese and/or some cornbread, etc. At the front of the line was the food truck, and you ordered one of the entrees (I forget what I had, but it was yummy). Drinks were provided by the bride and groom; they had tubs of bottled water, and big beverage dispensers filled with lemonade or ice tea, and they also provided bottles of vodka and bourbon.

I love love the idea! Our venue has a caterer though, so we don't have that flexibility (also it doesn't really go with our theme).

We've played at several outdoor weddings that had food trucks and they were great! We have so many gourmet food trucks here in the Tampa Bay area - you can choose from literally dozens!

    Good luck!

@Courtney to answer your questions, the food truck is arriving a few hours in advance to begin cooking. Then the servers are transporting the food from the truck to the buffet table in chaffing dishes. If we did everything directly from the food truck I think our guests would have to wait too long for their food to be prepared.

Another bonus is since we are having only beer and wine we just hired 2 extra servers through the caterer. That saved us a ton of money now that we won't have to hire a bartender!
