I want to start off by saying I am NOT self catering. I'm just curious if anyone has ever gotten food poisoning at a self catered wedding? A lot seem to be obsessed with guests getting food poisoning at a self catered wedding. I googled it, but only weddings that had been professionally catered got food poisoning. I'm personally not self catering because I don't want my friends or family to have to work on my wedding, and the stress of self catering that many people would not be worth it to me.

It's more work than anyone thinks. That's part of the point.

It's a ton of work, and who wants to think about the food at their own wedding????

To me this is something that can happen at a professional catered event, or a self-catered event. It can happen at a McDonald's or at a five-star restaurant. It is not possible to 100% avoid this.

Can this happen more commonly at a self catered wedding, and/or at a McDonalds - yes.

@Keri , and you think all waiters and restaurant staff wash their hands??? You are funny. I've worked in the restaurant business most of my life as a manager. I've seen staff walk into the bathroom with gloves on and walk out with gloves on. Yuck. Adults that I literally had to go tell take your gloves off and wash your hands.

@Keri, I had one line cook ask if he had to change gloves after touching raw chicken, and if there was a five second rule. He lasted one day.

Food poisoning can be really serious. I had a co-worker end up in the hospital (don't know where he got the bad food).

I had to go to a dr. after 7-8 days of being in my bathroom. I think it came from 1 of 2 restaurants I ate in that day.

If I go to a pot-luck event, I look around for things that are not likely to be spoiled -- chips, soda, etc.

Beach Dreams, thank for posting that pic -- I was hoping it would show up again!
