Food before wedding

Melanie, on February 17, 2020 at 12:45 PM Posted in Planning 1 19
So we’ve been discussing food before the ceremony/while getting ready. My maid of honor has gotten Jimmy Johns sandwiches before for things like this and that’s what she’s wanting to do for me. I’m not a fan of Jimmy Johns and asked if we could order pizza. She’s afraid that if will get too messy. I figure I won’t eat it while I’m on my dress and I’ll was my hands before getting dressed. She now is planning on getting me a personal pan pizza and everyone else Jimmy Johns sandwich tray. I feel now I’m making it too complicated. Any suggestions on food while getting ready that’s not super messy?

I feel like anything hand held in general is going to seem messy

We are likely going to get Panera.

I think that two places isn't too complicated plus it's your wedding day!

We are ordering from local cafe which is similar to Panera. But I just enjoy there food more, plus I know the owner so he is giving us a good deal.

It’s your wedding, I don’t really understand why your MOH is responsible for providing the food while you get ready. I personally wouldn’t want to eat something so carb heavy right before a wedding, but that’s your decision to make. We served Chick-fil-A while we got ready.

We got sandwich trays from Whole Foods. It’s honestly whatever you want!

In my opinion it’s not her responsibility but it’s what she did for the last time she was maid of honor. I think i might tell her she can order Jimmy Johns if she wants and I’ll have some snacks from CVS including poptarts. I don’t want to make things difficult plus everyone keeps telling me I’ll be too nervous to eat. My fiancées family looks at me like I’m nuts when I said I wanted pizza.

Girl if you want pizza, go for it! I have experiences getting too nervous or cramping before events, so I think I'm going to go the fruit/ light soup route. Cheers!

If you want pizza, go for it. But I would prefer something much lighter.
I dont think this is super complicated.
I dont like Jimmy John's but I'm probably doing Subway or McAlisters. I dont want anything heavy. Just enough to keep me alert and soak up some post ceremony wine.

I love pizza!!! I think as long as you eat it before you put your dress on you’ll be fine. I didn’t even think about food before the ceremony. Now I have one more thing to worry about 😩.

Lol I just remember being a bridesmaid a few years ago and we all had only one donut each. I’m not sure if it was the plan or we were in a rush. We stopped at a restaurant to get some pictures and I grabbed a waiter and told him to get me the fastest app possible to go. Well it took longer than a few minutes and I thought the bride was going to kill me lol so from that experience one of my top priorities is that I’m not starving until dinner at the reception.

Lololololol I’m definitely stealing your idea and having a couple slices. Everyone likes pizza and it’s quick and affordable.

OK so we ordered pizza and it was FINE! Sandwiches would be way messier. Just eat a slice before you put on your dress, and then brush those fangs and use mouthwash to ward off the garlic breath Smiley xd .

I think I took about 4 bites of my pizza because I was so busy doing other things I really didn't have time to eat. I'd suggest you eat a good breakfast in the morning if you can, and stay hydrated. Water is way more important than food. Snacks are a great idea, too, like raisins, nuts, and those Poptarts you mentioned! But pizza is handheld and the crust isn't generally too greasy. I was fine with mine! I'm an adult, after all, and have eaten for many, many years.

Once I put on that dress, I had one more bite and washed my hands and that was that. I finished my mimosa and brushed my teeth (ugh, orange juice and mint lol), and was ready for my big day. You do you. Don't have her do ANY food ordering. Save that as a task for someone else, like your mom or husband's parents. Or these days, you can even order online in advance and have it delivered at a future date. Just order it the night before to have it delivered around lunch time. Smiley heart

Also, if YOU want pizza, that's all that matters. Honestly, it sounds like she LOVES sandwiches or something? If she wants a sandwich she should just bring one. LOL. If you want pizza, have pizza. It's your party and you can eat pizza if you want to. Smiley heart

Lol thank you!! I just texted her and said she can go the sandwiches if she wants but for me let’s get poptarts and other snacks. I plan on stocking the party bus with snacks too. I will remember to drink lots of water. My fiancée was concerned about pizza places being open that early because we are getting married at noon. I think it’s cuz Jimmy Johns last time. Idk lol I like sandwiches but if I’m getting an expensive one out I want if toasted lol

If you're getting married at noon, why not bagels and such, or something equally breakfasty? I don't think I'd want to eat a turkey sandwich or pizza in the morning. We did bagels and cream cheese and fruit in the morning while getting hair and make up done, and then the venue provided us with fruit and cheese and stuff like that in the bridal suite in the afternoon. Everyone seemed good with that. I had asked beforehand if there was anything else they would like, and everyone said that was good.

Jimmy Johns is an...interesting choice. We got Panera. I ordered and paid for it for my 8 bridesmaids, mom and grandma. I’m pretty sure some of the groomsmen’s girlfriends snuck food to them, too!

We had coffee, OJ, yogurt parfaits, fruit salad, bagels and egg soufflés. The OJ disappeared (probably in mimosas!), as did the eggs. I think the girls really appreciated something protein-heavy that was easy to eat with a fork.
I agree with PP that breakfasty type foods are the way to go.

Pizza seems super messy & greasy & filling for before a wedding. I'd look into things like Panera or some kind of sandwich bites or salads.

Stay away from anything oily, or anything that stains. Or anything that will sit like a lump in your stomach when you are nervous.
