FOCCUS test

August, on August 9, 2017 at 10:17 PM Posted in Planning 0 59

This "test" is required if you want to get married in a Catholic Church. We took it July 21st and our pastor told us it would take about 10 days for him to get the results. Well it's been awhile since then and I haven't heard anything back yet... for those who have taken it, how long was it until your pastor got ahold of you to discuss answers?

I'm getting married in a Catholic Church and no one told me about a test...? Is this a real thing? I need to talk to our priest if it is, or at least a sister at the rectory.

ETA: why don't you call and ask about your results?

My fiance and I completed ours in Feb and didn't meet with Deacon again until May/June. My Deacon waited until we had all our forms completed and received to go over FOCCUS

Yes it is a real thing. This and the catholic engaged encounter needs to be done before moving on to doing actually ceremony stuff (music, readings, etc)

My FH and I took "the test" the middle of May. We are meeting with our priest this weekend to go over the answers. I think there's such a long gap between ours because we live out of town from where we are getting married. We scheduled to meet with him this weekend when we took the test back in May.

@denise that makes sense. Our retreat isn't until January. So maybe around that time? He told us it will be about 10 days then I will call you with results. Not scared or nervous, just like did you get my results, I took the test. Lol

We never actually heard the results. My priest just said everything was fine. You can always call and ask.

Oh I didn't have to do the Encounter. Thank goodness because don't have time for that.

The priest is my cousin so he was real cool about things lol

@michelle that is nice that you guys already scheduled a time to meet up and discuss results in advance. Maybe I'll have to call and ask. I live right across the church I am getting married at. Smiley smile

?!?! What test??? I'm getting married in a Catholic church. Are you talking about the fully engaged inventory? If so it's not a "test." It just takes a look at where their are gaps and what conversations you should have before marriage.

We had completed ours about a month before we met with our priest, which also happened to our Pre-Cana day. It would be fine to reach out to him and set up a time to discuss. Our priest gave us our responses, went over some highlights, and then let us go through the rest on our own.

In the meantime, The 5 Love Languages has been continuously recommended to us. You can can each take this to learn/confirm what is your love language and your partner's.

I mean, we spoke with our priest and answered questions he asked. Then we have to do pre-cana and that's it. He then gave us a book and said "pick readings and your vows and bring it back after pre-cana"

He asked us a bunch of questions when we met with him and told us we were good to go and to get with the sister for pre-cana info. Is that what it is? I'm kind of freaking out, I don't want to be behind in things, we truly barely have time for pre-Cana with FH working out of town for a while

@bemyguest we don't have to do the weekend either but it was "highly recommended" lol. I figured might as well!

@brenda yes that is what I am talking about. I know it is not a test as that is why I put it into quotation marks. My church calls it the FOCCUS test which I think might be the right definition for it not sure, but that's what he told me it was. Lol

We did foccus questions with our Deacon, but it was more of a casual question, answer, and discussion. He told us at the end how we did and provided us with some spiritual advice for going further on in our journey to marriage.

@Red some churches do a more informal questionnaire! If you haven't had to, don't worry about it!

@red2018 I am really sorry to make you panic! I know that it is probably called differently in parishes. My "test" was 168 questions! Lol

Goodness august! lol that's a lot of questions. BMG is right, mine was more of a questionnaire. Thanks for clarifying that I appreciate it! Smiley smile
