Flowers help!

Ashlei, on September 5, 2019 at 7:49 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 2 46
So I’m getting married in May, and as far as major things left to book/pay for I just have flowers. I haven’t booked a florist yet. I have one in mind if I go that route but the more i think of the money I’m spending the more I freak out a bit. Who is doing their own flowers? Real vs silk? How did hard has it been for you? Was the cost significantly less? I’m like the least creative person in the world and work way more than I’d like to admit so I’m just worried I’ll fail at doing my own and look like a 2 year old did it 😂

I made my centerpieces for wayyy less than they would have cost. But I did hire a florist to do the bouquets and arch because I didn’t want to touch that.

Florists quoted me minimums ranging from 2500 to 4000. I laughed. I looked into sola flowers on etsy and right off the bat my new quote looked more like 500. Fair. Then I read some DIY stuff on here and found out about lings moment and hobby lobby. My final cost will be around 200.

If you plan on doing real flowers keep in mind there’s a lot that goes behind it! Lots of time and there’s stress for sure. As a bride I don’t think you need that stress last minute. If you have a friend doing this or you do it make sure to do some practice before. Get to know the flower, when to buy as usually you need this multiple days before for the flower to open naturally, etc. All flowers have a different time for this. You’ll need to keep them after that in cold space and really cold water so they stay fresh.
If you do silk you can do this waaaaay in advance. I don’t particularly like fake flowers but if you do it you own this feel like a more reasonable option to avoid stress.

What is lings moments? And I love hobby lobby! I’m doing all the rest of the decor and getting it from hobby lobby and stuff. I’m liking the 200 vs the **** I was quoted for about half of what I want

Oh gosh yeah I didn’t think about all that. I’ll probably end up with silk flowers if I don’t hire a florist. I do not have the time for all that lol

The only thing I’m really worried about is the flowers for the arch. I haven’t the slightest idea how to attach them or do any of that. I’m sure i can YouTube it or something but still

Yes! Flowers are very tricky to work with and it varies by season. I have did my own arrangements for my engagement party and it was a process and it was stressful! Don’t recommend that for a bride at allb

I'm in the same boat. I don't have the money for a florist, so I'm doing my own decor. I might order a few bouquets off etsy because it's so much cheaper. I'm thinking of something like this for a centerpiece. All these pics are from etsy and relatively cheap

I played violin at a wedding two years ago where there was a strong wind that blew all the flowers off the arch. Luckily the florist and coordinator rushed to put it back together before the ceremony. But it scared me out of ever trying to do my own arch because I’m not that crafty.

We have a florist doing our bouquets, boutonnières, ceremony decor, and some reception decor. But my mom is doing our reception dinner table center pieces. We aren’t using flowers, I wanted candles instead. This saved us a good chunk of money.

Yes! I love those! I was thinking about something like this. I saw a cool DIY thing on Pinterest of how to make the terrarium for cheap so maybe I’ll go to hobby lobby and try it out! Where on Etsy did you find those? Everything I’ve looked at on Etsy has been ehh

I have to have natural flowers I know it will be more expensive but I'm thinking of adding a lot of greenery and babybreath to try to make it a little bit cheaper.

Lings moment is a faux flower supplier. lingsmoment.com. the roses are awesome. The gardenias are very nice. I'm using both of those for centerpieces and bouquets/boutonnieres. Using hobby lobby and Amazon for greenery and fillers.

Etsy sellers also do silk arrangements if you wanted to spend the extra to have someone else do the designing. I just found inspo pics and read some basics and I dont think the hard part is the crafting. It's the vision and putting it together that is tough.

I originally was going to do my own flowers but decided against it because I'm having a morning wedding. I was surprised how many florists were willing to work with me and fit my budget. Ask around and send photos of examples of what you want.

I bought several flowers from Ling's Moments via Amazon and got a lot on sale at Hobby Lobby. Made all my centerpieces, corsages for moms and all of my bouquets. Not really as hard as you would think!

I just looked at lings and they have such beautiful options for so cheap! Did you buy the already made arrangements or the boxes and do your own?

I bought a pre-made set of boutinnieres but otherwise just bought a few different types and colors of the roses and made my own stuff! I did buy some filler from Hobby Lobby because I wasn't as fond of the leaves Ling's provided for what I wanted. But, Hobby Lobby has 50% off on their His & Hers wedding and floral every couple weeks.

I've done flowers for several weddings. Fake flowers have come a looking way. They look a lot more natural these days...I can't justify the cost of real flowers for a day... I'm making our bouquets and some of the ceremony and reception decor out of paper. And filling in with some fake flowers here and there... The test runs have gone well so far.
