Flower/decoration help

Pamela, on June 18, 2019 at 11:37 AM Posted in Style and Décor 0 10
Hey everyone!

So I have been starting to look around for a florist for my wedding in June of 2020. I already met with one and they quoted me for about $8,033 (includes lighting package for $850 & delivery/setup/removal for $595). I honestly feel that is an excessive price so I just wanted to see what the average is others have spent on flowers. All advice would be super helpful!!

Yup! Floral is EXPENSIVE. I chose to opt out and go with artificial. I spent $300 vs. the $3,500 they quoted me.

I didnt do lighting or any of that but I was quoted about $2,000 just for flowers for a bridal bouquet for myself, 3 BM bouquets, 4 corsages and 4 bouts. I ended up going with silk flowers and had a women do custom arrangements for $400 for what I listed above.

I don't think getting averages is going to help you much here. Floral prices are dependent on so many factors; type of flowers, season, sizes, your location, number of bouquets/decorations/centerpieces/etc. I agree that $8k+ is expensive for flowers, but it sounds like you're wanting a lot. I would get quotes from other florists in your area and decide whether or not your vision is realistic based on your budget.

The first thing I told florist was budget. I showed her my inspo board too. I was up front with her about wanting to diy some stuff, but ended up changing my mind. I decided having real flowers was worth it. I wanted to spend $400-500 and ended up doubling that.

Can you rent lights somewhere else? Just keep getting quotes! You'll figure it out.

I'm curious what you were asking for that would cost 8Gs. Would you mind sharing an inspo pic?

That is SO much. I wouldn't spend more than $1k...the flowers will be dying by the time you get back from your honeymoon. Try to shop around more or considering scaling back on your standards/amount of flowers and substitute with some other cute decor.

I am just doing DIY bouquets from Trader Joes because I couldn't bear to spend that much money on flowers.

My friend spent $12k on florals but he had a ton. He had a whole flower wall, ceiling flowers, big flowers for decor, etc. So I can see how you got quoted for a lot of money if you're going to have a lot of flowers. But it also sounds like you should shop around flower stores for more pricing
Fake ones can always be a ton cheaper especially at craft stores.

My issue is the types of flowers was never discussed so I'm confused as to how the quote for 8K was made especially when I'm not requesting as many flowers as I know others are who I just spoke to

I'm going to look into other places for sure. Lighting I will look around to see and even speak to the venue again about it as I'm not looking for some crazy color just a soft yellow tone like the one similar to the centerpiece lighting. I posted pictures of the main ideas, I also would have some flowers on every other row for the ceremony and we had originally thought of possibly having something at the entrance (which I now do not want) that was quoted for $595 for that piece but even without it, I still feel the price is a bit excessive.

Definitely thinking about looking into some fake flowers for some of the things, especially since flowers don't last long
