Flower Order: How many stems do I need to order???

KayDwitWill, on February 5, 2014 at 9:11 AM Posted in Planning 0 6

I’ve decide to do my own flowers based off a quote I got from a vendor who works with silk flowers. I never went to get a quote from a real flower florist as I’m sure it would have been way more expensive than my $1,098 quote.

I plan on using real flowers in bulk from 50 flowers since they have more of a selection as far as what I want. Sam’s only offers white flowers and I need other colors. In doing my own flowers, how am I supposed to know how many stems I need to order? I’m clueless as to how to put flowers together but I plan on studying a few videos on YouTube.

Go to a craft store and grab a bunch of flowers to the point where you are satisfied with the size?

I did a test centerpiece before I ordered mine. I went to the florist and bought a couple stems of hydrangeas and used the mock up to figure out how many stems per centerpiece I would need.

For the bouquets my mom had made them before so she knew how many stems per bouquet we would need. It was more than I would have thought, but I'm glad I trusted her.

@Out the Window, I thought about doing that at Michaels until the florist guy that works there sort of gave me a hard time about him doing the pieces for me. I loved the hydrangeas they had but they didn't have any roses I like or calla lillies.

@Jules, yes I would have to do test pieces first as this would be my first time doing anything creative. Maybe I'll go back and talk with the guy at Michaels. I just hate gay guys who think they know it all and try to make you feel bad about not knowing about it.

I used real flowers for my test piece - if you're going to use real flowers for your centerpieces, I would suggest using real for your test as the size can vary greatly from silk.

Know-it-alls come in all forms. I don't think it's important that he was gay...

I agree with Jules. You should buy some real flowers at a florist and play around with designs to get a better idea of how many stems you need.

Bridesmaid bouquets are 14-24 stems, mine is 36, tables are 24-36 each, the card table is 48-60 stems, the memorial table is 80 white stems, the bridal head table is 48-60 stems, the ceremony decor is 80-120 stems, hope that helps, if youre doing orchids or huge blooms you can do less
