Flower girl dresses too expensive? Feeling guilty.

Anonymous, on March 25, 2011 at 2:21 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 23

I am having 2 flower girls in my wedding party and no ring bearer. The FG's are a GM's kids. They are ages 3 and 2. They will only be at the ceremony for the beginning and then for pictures, they are being picked up by their grandmother and taken home after pictures are taken. I feel bad making their parents spend 79.00 each on the dresses I want because they are only going to wear them for a couple hours. I really cant afford to buy their dresses either. Any suggestions?

They are cute. Have you talked to the parents to see how they feel?

For alternatives, keep in mind that with Easter coming lots of stores have cute dresses for litle girls. Most of which are on sale.

You could just have the FGs in white dresses with a sash in your wedding colors. Finding a nice, affordable white dress for a little girl is not hard. And if one of your BMs is shortening her dress, turn the extra fabric from the hem into the sash!

Wait... Are the girls sisters? (just checking, the wording is awkward)

If so, remember, the GM has to pay for his clothes, plus the clothes of his daughters.

That is a lot of money for a dress they will probably never wear again.

Check out Burlington Coat Factory! Their dresses were $49.99 Ea. I got my FG's dresses there and the design actually matches my dress from the boutique.

Yes the girls are sisters. I thought it was a lot to pay also for a few hours and they will out grow it in a couple weeks probably. I am going to shop around this weekend and see if I can find an easter dresses(great idea) I really like these because they match my bridal party and I dont want them in white dresses, but will if I have to.

Look at other options. With all the Easter dresses coming out at department stores- you can find a million much cheaper!

I got dresses for my girls at JC Penney for $35!

If your color is purple, you'll find plenty of lavender dresses. You can add a different colored sash (darker purple or white) if you'd like.

I've been looking at department stores like Meghan said looking at the easter dresses. I really wanted a flower girl but I knew that spending too much on her dress was not an option. I always keep my eye out at tj maxx, marshalls, ross, jc penny, macys. And I've even considered ebay!

I would just talk to the GM about the cost. If he is comfortable with if, I don't see the problem. I found my flower girl dress on mygirldress.com. They have some pretty reasonable colored dresses. I was initially going to get my niece a pink dress, but she said she wanted a white wedding dress. I selected a white dress with a pink sash.

My FG dress was $45 at a local formal dress shop in town. You can find them cheap pretty much anywhere. They look just as good, if not better than the expensive ones.

I offered to both of my FG's parents to pay for their dresses. One family has both a FG and RB and the other (FH brother) has his brother's tux, his one son's tux (still figuring out his role) and a RB and FG. I found FG dresses for 66, and offered to pay. Both families told me no. They both said that they knew what they were getting into (financially) when they agreed to it, so they wouldn't accept the offer. I told them that I would take care of jewelry, shoes and headpieces then. Point being...talk to the parents! They may surprise you...

I have three flower girls - me and my FH's nieces. Two belong to my sister, who is also a bridesmaid. Her son is also my RB, so...yeah, I asked my parents to help her out, because I know she's taking a huge hit for my wedding! I feel bad, but have offered to help where I can, too, but I'm using most of my extra money on the wedding already. I hate the guilt, but I think we'll all be happy with everyone being dressed up!
