Flower budget?

HisLittleMrs, on April 10, 2014 at 6:26 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 1 23

Hey ladies do you mind sharing your flower budget? My brother and his fiancé are spending **** on all of their flowers this June. That to me sounds absurd for something that is going to die!

FH and I have a budget of **** for our wedding next April. Still to me that sounds like too much and we hope to donate them to a senior home after the wedding. I am I being silly? Or is that an average budget?

    $40. We are having our wedding in a garden, so I don't see much point in spending money on flowers! Just enough for a bouquet and boutonniere of lavender.

    I was quoted a variety of prices. My largest quote was $3600 for My bouquet, 1 MOH bouquet, 1 FG bouquet, 3 corsages, 5 bouts, and10 centerpieces. Needless to say we shopped around and I'm getting all of it for about $650.

    I'm making my centerpieces and the materials for those and the real flowers for the bouquets are costing about $500 total. That's for my bouquet, 5 BM bouquets, 5 boutonnieres, FG thing, and a couple of corsages for the mothers and grandmothers.

    We are getting a total of 43 pieces and its costing us $1415 with delivery and tax.

    ETA: we are getting hydrangeas and they tend to be a little more on the high end.

    For real flowers those budgets sound about right.

    Me I went with silk so I'm spending about $500 for everything.

    Flowers are among the items in which budgets can vary the most. The cost can be lowered by:

    * Using less expensive types of flowers.

    * Using fewer flowers per bouquet, centerpiece, etc.

    * Limiting the size of your wedding party, and/or not having (any or as many) personal flowers for people not in your wedding party.

    * Using fewer floral items (e.g., having nonfloral centerpieces, bouquet alternatives).

    Our total floral budget was $275. That included:

    * Two bridal bouquets.

    * One MOH bouquet.

    * One bout for the dude of honor.

    * Freeze-dried flower petals to scatter on tables at the reception.

    You just have to decide how important flowers are to you.

    All in all, our budget for flowers is $1250. I just got a quote of $800 from Metropolitan Market (a local high end grocery store in the PNW) for my bridal bouquet ($135), 6 bridesmaids bouquets ($65 ea.), 12 boutineers ($15 ea.) and 4 corsages ($25 ea.)

    Our venue is at a city owned building and will have TONS of outdoor flowers, so we're getting additional flowers through a BM's mom at the Washington Floral Market - which is basically wholesale and going to save my life and floral budget.

    Generally, flower arrangements and presentations make up 6% of the total Wedding Budget. If the $**** you're currently planning to spend more than that percentage, then you should feel free to investigate ways of lowering the amount of money spent on flowers.

    Are there local species of flowers in your area that look good and can be picked before the wedding day?

    I did my bouquets, boutonnieres, and mothers corsages at a local florist for a little over 600, and I got my ceremony decor flowers and reception flowers at a wholesale distributor for 400. I feel like 1000 is a decent number for the amount of flowers I got. I have friends who were more on the **** range and honestly we all had the same amount of flowers!

    We are only spending $400 on all flowers and decorations because my aunt has offered to make paper flowers (I'm allergic to most things anyway and don't really even like flowers, so I prefer it this way). With that said, we absolutely splurged on the venue/catering/alcohol expenses. I think this is the best way to do it.

    However, if they really want to splurge on flowers because part of their vision is to have tons of beautiful floral arrangements at their wedding, and they have the money to do it, then I say that's perfectly fine and I wouldn't personally judge them for it or call it silly. I know plenty of people think FH and I are silly for spending so many thousands on a one day celebration at a very expensive venue, so who am I to judge?
