Florist Question

Kayla, on September 6, 2019 at 9:44 AM Posted in Planning 0 14

I requested a couple of quotes and met with a few florists for my wedding. Of the three that got back to me with a true quote for what they thought I wanted, pricing was all over the place. Did any one else have this issue when talking with florists? I ended up requesting a couple more quotes to make sure, but I thought it was a little odd that there would be a $600 difference in the highest and lowest quote.

I reached out to a couple of places. Only one got back to me. She gave me price ranges and then asked what type of flowers and for some inspo pictures. She never answered my emails after that. I ended up going with real touch fake flowers. They cost a lot less and look the same.

Some of the discrepancies might be the size of the arrangements. Our florist gave us options on how big we wanted each of the bouquets and would have done the same for centerpieces if we were doing florals. It’s possible other florists just have a standard size but they might vary between florists.

Our florist was talking about this when we met. I think part of it is how much they might charge for labor, if you are renting anything from them, and where they get their flowers from. The florist I am using asked me to send her pictures of exactly what I wanted and what flowers I liked. She then called all of the growers that she uses to see what the best price would be for those flowers that time of year. I think it really depends on just who you use. There are two popular florists in our area and one is way more expensive than the other. Everyone that we talked to about the more expensive lady said "yeah her work is pretty, but her prices aren't pretty."

I received 3 quotes and they were a few hundred dollars apart as well. The truest quote I received- and the florist we chose- was the one I actually sat down with face to face. Her quote was $100 more than the next highest, but she offered 6 more arrangements for the card table, alter etc. To be honest, I feel like one of the florists quoted me SUPER high because she didn't have the time/interest to do my wedding. Oh well- my hefty flower budget will fall in someone else's pockets lol!

This is how it will be with everything. From dresses to venue to food to everything. It's a difference in quality to brand to experience to season to how busy they are. Thats just what you can expect. See if they have photos of previous things they've done to show you how talented they are and how their flowers usually look. It matters. Also, look at reviews. If theres no real difference and you can afford to choose of course save yourself some money.

This is typical. Depends on the type of shop, what kind of pull they having with getting flowers in, who their suppliers are, and discrepancies of sizing and general design. One shop might charge more for their design than another.

I had a florist quote me more than 2x the amount another florist had. Both with identical flowers, size, amount, set up and delivery. Needless to say, I went with the cheaper one.

This is typical. It's like with anything in life: there are expensive options and cheaper options. I met with 7 florists and received a $3,000 difference between highest and lowest. It's normal.

I’ve met with two florists the deference’s were a couple hundred also. I can’t do over the phone stuff I made sure to meet them in person. I ended up going with the second one only cuz I didn’t like how the first talked to me.

I gave all florist my budget. 2k and not much wiggle room. All said they could work with that budget and then two came back with 4 and 4.5K. How? idk.... the florist I went with came back with a proposal exactly at 2k explaining everything I would get and it was great!

I got quotes from $1,200 from a florist who works out of her home to $2,900 from a well establish florist with 3 stand alone locations. Businesses have higher overhead costs than someone out of their home.

Yes this is typical. This is why I had a "scorch the earth" approach when choosing my vendors. I think I got quotes from at least 10 different florists. The prices were all over the place. For example, I chose garlands as my centerpieces. Most florists charged $25-30 per foot; whereas, the florist I chose only charged $15 per foot (for the same style, quality, etc.). That was a big difference.

I reached out to about 5 florists and only 2 came back to me with some sort of estimate before our consultation. One of those was the one we ultimately chose.

Yes! Very common. This was my biggest concern and my biggest decision because all vendors give you all different prices. I would send the same picture and there was no pattern to follow in the increases. I eventually went with the one the price was more reasonable to me and I have to say this had me very nervous! I follow her on social media for a long time before making this decision and she came highly recommended by my coordinator so I was more calm still very nervous. After I hired them I look at all their work and gave her very specific instructions of what I like and didn’t like and she really deliver in the end! I could have gone with one twice the price but I’m glad I didn’t.
