Floor length bridesmaid dresses for morning wedding?

Lori, on November 20, 2018 at 12:32 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 18

I am 57 and my "bonus daughters" (21 and 24) are my bridesmaids. They are steering me toward floor length bridesmaids dresses, but our wedding is at 10:00 in the morning. I'm not sure if this is because they are young and have only attended evening weddings, or if it the trend. Input, please?

I think it's fine for a morning wedding! I think it matters less for time of day, and more for if your wedding is casual or formal. As long as it's not casual, long should be fine. You could even look for more sun-dress/maxi dress looking bridesmaids dresses too.

I agree. Length shouldn't be an issue. If they prefer long dresses, no matter the reasoning, just make sure they fit the formality of the wedding.

It's not an issue at all. Back in the 90s my bridesmaids wore long dresses for our morning wedding as did my sister's.

We are having An early afternoon wedding and my bridesmaids are wearing flowy long dresses! I think a lot of it depends on the material and style of the dresses themselves, and as long as they go with your vision and the overall feel of the wedding, go for it!

I think this is fine! Our ceremony is at noon but my bridesmaids all wanted to wear long dresses and the groomsmen all wanted to wear tuxes! I guess it’s more fun to dress up, especially if it’s at a formal venue. I don’t think the time of day matters!

I think that's totally okay! I'm having an outdoor Sunday morning wedding at 10:00 also and my MOH is wearing a floor length strapless dress. I agree with the others who say it just depends on the formality of the wedding.

Particularly in day time, flowing and long things are not restricted to very formal weddings. For mal and evening, more luxury satins and such. But daytime weddings run from formal, to sateen made of cotton, or light silky materials, or even cotton lace and eyelet, so long and dressy but not necessarily formal. So often articles say, long is for evening, but really not so. Formal day wear for men is cutaways and strollers, not evening style tuxes. And most day weddings drop the formality to suits, but loads of nice long dresses are still appropriate.

Hey Lori! Agreeing with all of the above comments, I think long dresses will be fine with a morning wedding! Especially in April, it may be a little more on the chilly side, so nice to have the longer length! Do you know what style yet?

I’m leaning toward a Azazie dress, Bridget in Grape chiffon.

I wouldn't see an issue in a floor length gown for a morning wedding... I would try and focus on lighter / brighter colors... given your wedding is in spring you're probably already there on that!

The lightness of chiffon is great for a daytime wedding.

I ordered the dresses from Azazie yesterday during their CyberMonday sale ! (Bridget in Grape chiffon.) I sent in measurements so they will be custom made.

Thank you, everyone, for your comments. I will post pictures when they arrive in a few weeks.

I think it’s ok! I initially wanted short dresses because I thought long was too formal, but I realized that long would be more flattering for all of my bridesmaids (I’m choosing length, color and material and the rest is up to them). So long it is! I think if you are worried about it being too formal, pay attention to fabric. I think fabric and style is more of what makes dresses formal or casual than length!
