Flats vs. Heels

So I'm sure that tons of people ask/think about this issue. So I love converse sneakers and I would love to wear them because then I know that my feet would be comfortable all day. So I'm sure that tons of people ask/think about this issue. So I love converse sneakers and I would love to wear them because then I know that my feet would be comfortable all day. On the other hand, I also love heels and I know that they do a lot for your posture and how you hold yourself when you wear them. Thinking of these things makes me very conflicted. And I know that ultimately it will be my decision because its my day and I can wear whatever I like, but I thought getting some other opinions may help.

I posted this on another wedding website, but I didn't get the kindest responses. All the people there were saying was that sneakers were a terrible idea and that I would regret it. Please note that it is less about sneakers and that style choice, but rather the broader idea of flat wedding shoes in general vs. heels for wedding shoes.

Personally, I say sleep on it and go with your gut. It's personal and people will agree/disagree no matter what you do!

I'm wearing flats/sparkly sandals on the day of my wedding. My Fiancé isn't much taller than I am and feels uncomfortable when I tower over him in my heels. It's our wedding day- I don't want him to feel uncomfortable, so sparkle sandals it is! Smiley smile

    Good luck!

I'm wearing flats for my ceremony because my 6 year-old (along with his 10 year-old brother) is giving me away and I wouldn't be able to link my arm through his without having to bend over...LOL, but then I'm going to change into some killer Tiffany blue heels that have the words "I" on one sole & "Do" on the other sole in rhinestones for the reception!! :-)

Honestly i am wearinf heels for the ceremony and pics! They are soo pretty and good for posture and make it easier for lil ol 5'3 me to kiss my 6'1 FH.

Because i dont wear heels much i know i will be in pain in them afyet a while so i will swap to flats at the reception

Those who say they are changing from heels to flats, how are you working around the fact that your dress has to be hemmed to one or the other length? I want to do this, but I'm worried that it will be dragging on the floor all night after I change to flats.

I live in heels. I feel pretty and sexy. Sneakers wouldn't do it for me. Looking good is rarely comfortable.

I am wearing flats because I am tall (5'8" which is tall for a woman) and if I wear heels, I would have had to order my dress with extra fabric. Plus I know that I would be kicking off heels to dance (and my dress would have been too long). I think you should choose one and stick with it (as your dress length would change if you chance shoes)

I am wearing 1.5" character shoe heels. They're a dance/ballroom type shoe, and they're super comfy (they have arch support and cushioned soles), so I don't anticipate having to change out of them. I glittered them up, and they're awesome. Even did the little blue I Do on the bottom of them. Smiley smile

When it comes to the shoes, you gotta do what you want, but personally, I cringe every time I see any bridal party members in sneakers.

I'm wearing flats. In heels I'm taller than my fiancé but, even if that weren't the case, I'd probably still wear flats. I'm more comfortable in them and they're more my style. Do what makes you feel comfortable! At the end of the day you'll be happier for it.

First, welcome to Wedding Wire, hopefully you find the people here helpful and friendly, I think this is the right place to come!

As for the shoes, I'm probably going with a 1 inch heel or flats. Once my dress comes in I'll see if I can get away with a flat shoe without hemming it, otherwise I may need an extra inch to keep it from touching the floor. My FH is a little shorter than me so I didn't want heels.

My sister recently got married and her advice was to find comfortable shoes. She fell in love with some heels and she said they were the most comfortable heels she ever had but by the end of the night her feet were still really aching. Remember brides stand a lot on that day (going around talking to people, walking to take pictures, dancing, etc) so comfort is what I'm going for.

I'm not a fan of converse but I appreciate everyone incorporating their own style. My friend even wore rain boots during her reception (it was her something blue). Have fun with it!

Go to the Converse web site and order custom shoes with your married name and colors on them. I cant wear heels because I have vertigo so I will be in flats but my FH is not much taller than me anyway. Don't forget to wear the same shoes to your dress fittings so the hem is perfect.

I agree with these ladies- heels for the ceremony and sneaks (or whatever flats you want) for the reception. You can get some cute photos of both! I am personally wearing flats the whole time (dressy flats) because I am a giant.

Confession: I spent $100 (which is a lot in my world) on these gorgeous heeled shoes. I wore them through the ceremony, and ended up kicking them off for pictures. It gave my husband extra height and my dogs were barking .Couldn't see them under the dress anyway.

Thank you so much for all the help, girls. I really appreciate the input. I'm still undecided about what to wear for the day, but I'm thinking that I'll definitely order some custom hot pink converse sneakers with my (to-be) married name. This way, I'll have them if I want them for the wedding or I'll just wear them after/whenever I feel like it. For heels, I'm thinking of purchasing Kate Spade heels as well, they're called Charm and they are sparkly with adorable bows. Anyone seen those? I've been eyeing them forever.

FH is only an inch taller than me so I plan to wear flats but have heels for any cute pics and for the garter toss.

My best friend got married two years & had a tea length dress. She wore converse and so did the bridal party. She would NEVER wear heels, bc that's just not her style. If she would have wore heels, it would have been strange, but that's her personality. I loved it for HER wedding, but won't be doing it for mine. However, I will not be wearing heels, either. Hoping to find some adorable flats Smiley smile
