Flats vs. Heels

serenity523, on November 17, 2013 at 5:26 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 37

So I'm sure that tons of people ask/think about this issue. So I love converse sneakers and I would love to wear them because then I know that my feet would be comfortable all day. On the other hand, I also love heels and I know that they do a lot for your posture and how you hold yourself when you wear them. Thinking of these things makes me very conflicted. And I know that ultimately it will be my decision because its my day and I can wear whatever I like, but I thought getting some other opinions may help.

I posted this on another wedding website, but I didn't get the kindest responses. All the people there were saying was that sneakers were a terrible idea and that I would regret it. Please note that it is less about sneakers and that style choice, but rather the broader idea of flat wedding shoes in general vs. heels for wedding shoes.

If you are not comfortable in flat shoes, I say go for it. I personally wouldn't wear Converse (though I was all about that look in high school!), but if that's your style, go for it. It can make for cute, fun photos.

I thought I would wear heels for the ceremony and then change into flats or a kitten heel, but I realized then the hem of my dress would be too long. I think the best thing to do is pick one or the other and stick with it for the whole day.

I plan on wearing flats. FH is only a little bit taller than me, and I am not a huge fan of the bride being taller than the guy.

I dont have my shoes picked out yet though.... In regards to the sneakers, I like the idea but would also make sure that it goes with your theme. If it doesn't, then there are a lot of flats and cute sandals that you might want to consider Smiley smile

Personally, I am definitely wearing heels. They make me feel a little more girly I guess lol and I just always feel a little more confident and special wearing them I think.

Also my fiance is over a foot taller than me... so the higher the heals the less distance between us!!

My FH and I are the exact same height. He and his groomsman will be in Chuck Taylors. I will be in flats of some sort so I don't tower over him. I also want to be comfortable.

Maybe heels for your ceremony and flats/sneakers for your reception?

I plan on wearing flats myself. i agree that heels do wonders for your posture and how you hold yourself, but my feet KILL me in heels. i'm horrible at being a girl and my feet just have never been able to get used to being crammed in heels for long periods of time.

i'd rather be comfortable than in pain on my wedding day. lol. there are some really cute flats out there and i'm sure i'll find a great pair. Smiley smile

Wow, can I just say thank you to all of you? The other place I posted asking this, everyone was just so mean and unkind. It makes me feel so much better to get these responses from you ladies. So, thank you.

I do love heels and I also love sneakers. I actually wear sneakers with dresses all the time. And I would totally wear heels for the ceremony and then switch, but as a few ladies mentioned, I think that would mess up the hem length. Either the hem would be too long for flat shoes or too short for the heels.

I love flats. I always imagined myself getting married in flats because they're more me. However, I was talking about it to my bridesmaid and she reminded me my posture in pictures will be much better in heels and my pictures will look better. So I am going to wear heels for the ceremony and flats for the reception.

I wearing wedges. I'm not much of a heels girl but I do like a shoe that will give me a little bit of height. I figured if I go with wedges I can wear them all day and won't have to worry about the hem of my dress being wrong if I were to switch shoes.

There are some very pretty flat shoes. I'm sorta over the sneaker and wedding dress thing, sorry, but it's your wedding; you should do what you want.

I stood in a wedding a couple months ago and the bride as well as bridesmaids wore heels for the ceremony (which lasted about 20 mins) and then converse for the reception. I don't think the bride had a problem with the hem length, at least she didn't say anything. If your dress is long enough no one will see your shoes anyways and it's all about how you feel in them.

I REALLY dislike sneakers with wedding gowns but converse have such a unique look and style, they can really add to the feel of the wedding. That being said, just as a heads up, on an episode of 4 Weddings, a girl wore converse and it was judged as a childish wedding by the other brides.

I really debated wearing slippers (Hawaiian flip flops) for my reception but I HATE photos of myself in flats compared to heels so I found nice comfy light cork wedges.

Look around first, you might surprise yourself Smiley smile

My feet hurt so bad every time I wear I wear heels so I'm planning on wearing flats for the whole time. I'll probably end up with a cute pair of Toms because they're super comfortable and I know that my feet won't bother me.

I have never seen sneakers with a wedding dress, but would love it! First of all, if you're wedding a long, ballgown type dress, how often will people see your feet, aside from the garter toss, anyway? Second, I think being comfy is waaaaaayyyyyy more improtant than being stylish! Aching feet might ruin your reception, but shocking a couple people will not. If you think you'll be more comfortable in sneakers, go for it.

If your dress is long and no one will see your feet, who cares?

I have a shorter dress, so mine will be seen. I'm starting in heels, but I'll last MAYBE 2 hours, so I'm bringing a pair of flats to change into. My right arch has fallen, so comfort is the most important thing.

I'm getting married on the beach so i am definitely wearing flats, but even if i were getting married in a church i would probably wear flats or wedges since heels absolutely kill me!

i've seen the converse idea and i LOVE it! and the end of the day you will take a few pics showing off your shoes but on the day no one will really see them anyways unless u want to show them, so rock whatever you feel comfortable in the most!

I'd say go for the best of both worlds. Find amazing heels for the ceremony, and slip into the converse for the reception!! And I personally like the converse over just some plan old flats. It's a cute way to show your personality. My guys will be wearing converses with their suits Smiley laugh And I'll be doing heels for a while and flats for later in the night.
