FL beach wedding timing?? to hot?

Mrs. Brock, on February 24, 2013 at 3:09 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 11

Were planning on getting married on May 11th, we want to have our ceremony on Anna Maria Island, FL. We are having the reception at a diffrent location. The music has to be off at 10pm at the reception all, and we must be out at 11. The Reception location is about 30mins away. We were going to get married at 3pm, but im thinking its going to be way to hot & bright, The sun iis predicted to set at 8:01, but cant always go off that. How long should a reception last, we will be having cocktail hour, dinner, dancing etc. we could set the time back further then 3pm for the ceremony. any suggestions?

Thanks Smiley smile

May is not a bad time. It shouldn't be scorching by Florida standards, but that might be too hot for many people not used to the heat. To be honest, there won't be a big difference between 3 pm and 5 pm, and to me it gets even hotter in the hour before sundown. I think as long as you keep the whole thing to 20 minutes, warn your guests that the ceremony will be outdoors, and set up ice cold water for guests and keep them out of direct sunlight, you should be ok. (WATER or Gatorade, not any drinks with sugar because those will dehydrate you!) I think most receptions go for about 4 hours?

I would actually go earlier in the day. I live in Daytona so pretty centrally located on the east coast. I was at the beach last May 1st for an event and got burnt! It was quite warm and very sunny.

Its really a guessing game though as to how clear or rainy it might be. It it more likely to rain in the afternoon though. If you move it to late afternoon you may have a higher chance of rain but then again...maybe not, lol. Gotta love FL. If I were going to get married on the beach I would go for the morning personally. If you are going for 3pm make sure shade is available. It doesn't take long to get baked out there.

I live in Tampa .. FL is hot from April to December! I've sat on the beach in December getting a sunburn. I would shoot for early evening. We're doing a short and sweet sunset ceremony in June then heading inside just in case its too hot or humid.

Best Wishes on your upcoming wedding!

On May 11th, the sun will not set until 8:09. The best time to start the ceremony would be 7:30 (depending on length of ceremony and your photographer's preference).

At 3:00, the sun will be casting harsh shadows and everyone will be squinting. In May, the average daily high temperature is 87 degrees and the high is usually hit around 3 PM.

Jennifer, the above should sound familiar to you. If not, check your e-mail.

Idk what to do, I can't have it at 7:30, that will not be enough time for the reception.

Do it as late as you can -- even if that means 5:30 instead of 7:30.

    5:30 ceremony starts

6:00 guests leave for reception location

6:30 guests arrive at reception location

7:00 B&G entrance (after photos), first dance, toasts

    7:30 dinner

    8:00 B&G sunset photos

    8:30 dancing starts

10:00 end dancing & start cleaning up

    11:00 exit hall

Our rainy season usually starts mid-June and then you can count on brief late afternoon thunderstorms almost daily.

Fl is so unpredictable too. Like today we randomly had a rain storm at like...1pm. Whatever you do I'd suggest a backup plan just in case!

I have lived here my whole life. Early May isn't that hot at all! I am getting married April 13th.

I do NOT want a rushed reception. I have planned for a year so I want a fun party, not two hours and go home. Sorry

My ceremony on the beach is at 4:30

    Cocktail hour - 5-6

    Toasts & first dance 6-6:30

    Dinner - 6:30-7:30

7:30 to 11:00 to have fun, enjoy our little goodies, cake, dancing, lounge area, etc

    Early May is usually perfect!
