First time trying on wedding dresses! Tips please!!

Ashley , on December 14, 2017 at 2:00 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 1 17

Made my first appointment to try on wedding dresses next Wednesday at David's Bridal because I found some styles I loved on their website! Looking for some tips on trying on dresses, what to wear, bring, or whatever advice you'd like to give! Thank you! :-)

Try on styles you didn't pick. You'll be surprised. I picked a ball gown and never thought I would

Definitely be open to dresses you don't think you'd like. I absolutely hated the idea of a mermaid style dress on me, and ended up buying one!

Also, don't bring a lot of people. Too many opinions and not enough room.

    Have fun!

I was a bridal consultant at a small shop, so I've got advice for days!

I agree with all of the advice above, especially with not bringing too many people and being open to styles you hadn't imagined.

If you try something on and you know what you don't like about it, be vocal about what it is that you don't like. Even if it's just out loud to yourself, it'll help you sort through your thoughts! Also, as tempting as it is to take pictures in all the dresses, only take photos of the ones you really like. It makes sorting through the photos way easier.

& don't put pressure on yourself! Some people have to try a dress on more than once to find the one they love, and some people know right away. Take your time and have fun. Smiley smile

The best advice I can give is go with an open mind. Even if it's not something you would pick normally, try it on. Even if it is just to eliminate it as an option. You might be pleasantly surprised.

Nude panties and a strapless bra. I didn't wear a bra trying on dresses cus the woman made me take it off.

Most of all .. don't let anyone's opinions sway you. Get what you love!!!!

Don't bring too many people with you, you can never please everyone and you aren't their dress up doll.

Be open to trying stuff on, especially dresses recommended to you by your consultant. But at DB, that may not happen... customer service there is lackluster.

Wear a nude strapless bra and nude undies!

    And have fun!

Kristen, yes! That's a good idea with the pictures! Are bridal shops picky about taking pictures?

I'm taking my sister (MOH), Mom, and my Grandma.

It depends on the shop! It's always a good idea to ask your consultant when you get there if they mind you taking photos. We always let brides take photos, but we gave the advice to only take a few! Smiley smile

Don't wear lace panties. I wore a pair with lace and the some of the dresses had bra like straps on them and the little hooks kept getting caught on the lace. The consultant definitely had to put her hand back down in to the dress to unhook them more than once.

Try ALL different silhouettes and fabrics, to get an idea of what looks good on YOUR body and what makes you feel the most beautiful--oftentimes it's not what we originally pictured for ourselves. Wear a strapless bra for versatility, and maybe also spanx if you're into that. And if you hate something, move on immediately; you don't have to linger in it to be nice, just take it off and go onto the next one. If you really like a dress, have someone take photos of you in it from the front and back, sitting, and any details you liked (beading, etc) and take a video of you walking in it. Sleep on your decision to avoid dress regret.

Don't bring too many people - lots of opinions gets super annoying. Be open to trying on things the consultant picks - even if you hate it on the hanger give it a try but be sure to let them know what you like and don't like about each dress. Wear a strapless bra and spanx. Be sure to wear extra deodorant you will have lights beating down on you which make it really hot and a consultant all up in your face helping you in and out of dresses. Take pictures of any dresses that you like or love. It was super helpful to look back and see what i had liked. Be sure to ask if they do alterations in house and if so how much they cost. One place I looked charged almost the price of the dress just for alterations.

Don't bring too many people, and make sure the people you do bring know your style. I brought my mom and MOH.

The most helpful thing for me was taking pictures in the dresses. There were several I liked in the mirror but hated in pictures. It was also good to see how the dresses photographed against my skin tone. I thought I would want lace, but found that satin and tulle made me look a little brighter in pictures.

Like people have said, don't waste time in dresses you don't like, but definitely be open to different styles.

    Don't forget a ponytail holder!

Definitely try on dresses you didn't plan to! I tried on every style to see what it actually looked in on me. Keep an open minded, dresses definitely look different on a hanger then when you're actually wearing it. Also don't forget to have someone take pics ! So you can refer back to it, I forgot to do that
