First Dance Wedding Song Help!

Maria, on March 31, 2019 at 6:08 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 15

I started narrowing down first dance songs months ago. We are forty somethings who love a variety of music, including 80's, freestyle and rock. We are literally all over the place now. We kind of narrowed our selections that spoke to us over time. But just listening to them again recently, nothing seems quite right.

Train- "Marry Me" (seems mute after the fact of the nuptuals)

Edwin McCain- "I'll Be" ( too dated)

Katy Perry- "A Thousand Years" (too over used)

Sara Bareilles- "I Choose You" (too fast)

Anyone have similar taste in music and might be able to offer insight or a different suggestion we may not have thought of?

Figured I would give it a shot! Thank you in advance!!

Check out -the way i am-ingrid Michaelson, like a star -corrine Bailey rae. Also, consider searching for covers of songs. Some covers work better than the original.

If you’re into 80’s and rock, and I’m a huge Bon Jovi fan...we had “Thank YOu for loving me” by Bon Jovi. Our videographers and photographers both came up to us separately because they had never heard that song before and it was perfect for us (as well as a few other choice music toons we had for our grand entrance, father/daughter and mother/son dances).

Sure...my hubby loves metal/rock, so we entered with Metallica’s enter sandman...there’s a whole drum sequence, we came out during that...built up some suspense. Our first dance was bon jovi’s “Thank you for loving me. My song with my father was Jason Blaine’s “Dance with my Daughter” and my husband danced with his mother to Willie Nelson’s “In my mother’s eyes.”

It was awesome and that was pretty much the closest he was going to get to his metal roots...not really the genre of music for a wedding!!

Thank you as well, and congratulations to you!! Enjoy your day, it goes so fast and don’t sweat the small stuff, it truly isn’t important...make sure you’re Legally married and having fun! If you’re having fun, so will everyone else!

We had a horrible time picking one too! Narrowed it down to the same as some of yours but just decided yesterday on John Legend's All of You. Good luck!

We have musical tastes all over the board and struggled SO HARD with a first dance. My father/daughter dance had been a no-brainer since the day I was born (Allman Brothers. My name is Melissa. Easy choice.) We wanted something classic and not too trendy or overused - we knew that if we picked a really popular song, in 2 years we wouldn't be able to hear it without wanting to scream (lookin' at you, Ed Sheeran...) We went back and forth with stuff like Elton John's "Your Song," Van Morrison's "Tupelo Honey," or "Into the Mystic," a few Ray Lamontagne songs...and we finally settled on "Someone Like You" by Van Morrison.

We were SO CLOSE to going with Into the Mystic - but then someone said it reminded them of death, and one of my closest cousins said that she and her husband used it for their wedding (they eloped, I had no idea they used it!) so we moved over to Someone Like You - gotta keep it personal, you know? Smiley smile
