Firefighter wedding traditions

Krissi, on January 22, 2012 at 10:56 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 10

So my FH is a firefighter and I was wondering if there was an traditions that I might need to know about when it comes to the day of the wedding. I don't want to be surprised by the guys at from the station doing completely crazy.

Watch the cake!!! "coring the cake" with a wine glass or champagne flute and taking a hole out.

I married a firefighter too. I've been to several firefighter weddings. The only thing I've seen at them all- those boys can put down some beers! Every single wedding I have been to (except ours, because we didn't have beer) floated every keg...

There are ways to incorporate some firefighter touches without being too obvious. If you want some ideas- we're here. We've had a few of us marry into various departments.

I too am marrying a firefighter. I haven't seen or heard of anything crazy going on at their weddings, except for crazy amounts of alcohol (we do not drink, so I'm not worried about that).

We didn't want to do a firefighter theme, but we would like a few nods to his noble profession. Instead of a cake knife, we're using a small axe with the handle painted white, our names inscribed on the metal part and decorated with colored ribbon to match our colors. We thought it would be fun for the cake pictures!

We got a fireman wedding cake topper, but other than that we don't have anything firefighter themed. The axe for the knife is an awesome idea. Thank you Ashley for the heads up. Smiley smile

I also have a big sexy fireman!!! : ) He thought about wearing his dress blues rather than a tux but we decided against it, and the axe/ cake cutting set, very cute! I havent heard of any crazy traditions, they should make a fire hydrant fountain! That would be neat to see!

What about leaving on the back of a firetruck? My mom did that when she got remarried (she is the firefighter, not my stepdad).

My fh is also a fire fighter.. we got invitations with the maltese cross, a cake topper with a bride and fire fighter, I am wearing ivory with apple red gown, my girls are wearing apple red and one of the ice sculptures will be a dalmatian and a fire hydrant. We want to have pics dont on a fire truck but will be out of his fire district so we arent sure if it will be possible..

I'm going to be wearing white and fire engine red heels, my girls will be wearing red as well. I'd love to have pictures done with the engine and at his station. I did see garters with the maltese on them, i'll just have to find the website again!!

Often times I suggest a grooms cake be made specifically to address the fire fighter traditions. Hopefully this will keep them from affecting your elegant wedding cake.
