Finding the right bra - i need help!

Kristen, on March 31, 2020 at 12:41 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 1 21

I found the dress of my dreams back in January, but now I have the very daunting task of finding the right bra! My dress is strapless, and I have a large (36DDD), heavy chest, so I need a strapless bra that is going to give me unyielding, perky support. I'm thinking something like a strapless bustier would work best; if it's tight enough, it should hopefully lift and hold my girls in place. The downfall of having a large chest is that I have been unable to find a place that carries my bra size in store to try on, like a David's Bridal, so I'm probably limited to finding something online. Does anyone have a reliable place they can recommend for me? I don't even know where to begin looking because I don't ever buy strapless bras!

My fitting is in June and I'd like to have the bra I'm going to wear on the day of my wedding for the day of my fitting, so I'm trying to avoid several cycles of ordering online, waiting for arrival, trying it on, sending back if it's the wrong fit, waiting for the new size, etc. Thank you so much!

Have you tried Lane Bryant, either in store or online? I'm not assuming you're plus size, maybe your girls are your only plus size feature. But those ladies are trained well in measuring women properly and helping them find the right size and fit. Might be worth a shot at least. Good luck!

Try Ewa Michalak if there is still time. They are based in Poland, but they are for big cups!

I feel you. I have trouble looking for mine too. 28E. I decided to be braless on my wedding dress, but still need the wedding lingerie for the honeymoon right after the wedding, and the bridal robe.

I had cups sewn into my dress so I didn’t need a bra.

I haven't tried Lane Bryant! And honestly didn't even think to look there! But it would make sense to check a store that offers a better selection of larger sized bras, and to speak with someone who is trained in that area. Thank you so much for your suggestion! 💕 I feel silly lol

There might still be time! I'll absolutely take a look, thank you so much!

I wish I could go braless, but there's just no way lol. My girls are quite heavy and I don't think the dress alone would keep them up. I wish there was an easier way for us with bigger tatas to find bras that really work for us! I never seem to be fitted properly, but that's the struggle I suppose lol. Good luck in your search for the perfect honeymoon lingerie!

They suggested that when I decided on the dress, but I don't think it will be enough to keep my boobs in place. I think it's going to need to be a combination of things lol. But I appreciate the suggestion!

I have a very large chest and had cups sewn in. But if you’re wanting an actual bra I’d highly suggest Nordstrom! It’s the only place I’m able to find large cup size bras.

I'm big chested, my dress is strapless as of now but I'm putting in straps to make sure those puppies stay in! I'm using my strapless bra for jcp that I love. I've had it for years and has always done a great job. But I highly recommend Adore Me. Not only are they cute but they do the job! They have bigger sizes that are comfortable and have a good fit. Also any first timers usually can get half off for their first order. I bought a bra from there and it's truly one of my better fitting bras.

I would recommend having them sew a custom strapless bra into your dress itself. As a 30H (yep, you read that correctly, I am an H cup!) this worked very well for my strapless wedding dress. This will only work if your dress isn't low cut in the back, because it involved several layers of elastic and many clasps in the back. But I have never felt as 'supported' my entire life as I did on my wedding day. Best of luck!

No worries!! I might not have thought of them either, if I didn't already have experience with them. I'm not super big-chested, but years ago I was in there shopping ( I used to be a lot bigger), and was chatting with the sales girl about bras. She told me that a lot of women have trouble with finding the right size and fit, and part of the problem is that most of us aren't properly measured. So, she measured me, and found me some great fitting bras!

Even if you don't end up buying anything from them, getting measured properly is worth it!!

I didn't know Nordstrom carried large cup size bras! I'm learning so much from this thread lol. Thank you very much! I will be checking there as well. Smiley smile

So my dress actually does have straps, but they're not functional at all. They hang past the shoulder, giving the illusion of an off-the-shoulder dress. I considered asking them to make the straps usable, but the dress looks sooo pretty with the straps the way they are, and I can't bear to change it! So I've decided to sacrifice my comfort for the sake of a pretty dress lol. That being said, I was thinking of checking JCP! And I've heard of Adore Me, just never took a peek at their website. But I will now! That is such a great deal btw; the bra for just $25 and matching panties! I love that. Thank you kindly for your suggestion! Smiley heart

Girl good for you! lol I love being able to relate to other big chested gals!

This is exactly what I want; more boob support than I've ever had! Did you find a bra you liked and gave it to them to sew in, or did you ask for a custom bra to be made specifically for you and your dress at your fitting? I wouldn't consider the back of my dress to be low-cut, I'd say it probably sits just below my shoulder blades, so something like this could work!

Yes! I have a small band size and large cup size and it’s literally the only store where I can find a bra!

I totally agree with you, I never feel 100% satisfied when I purchase a new bra, even after being "measured"! But I always figured that's just part of the struggle of having a larger chest. I'm actually really excited about making a visit to them for a proper fitting when we're able to go out and about again!

I'm 40 E and I love my matching set from there. It's over 3yrs old and still doing a great job. I truly hate bra shopping. I can be many sizes in many stores but this one fits like a glove and the underwire has never irritated me. Glad I could be of help!

I asked for one to be made at my fitting! My seamstress said that sewing in an already-made bra wouldn't work. The key was not the cups so much, but creating elastic bands in the back of the dress to keep the girls in place. So most of the support came from the large elastic bands sewn into the back that held the dress in place. They put one band with clasps high up near the zipper and another one lower on my back. I think around 5 clasps in each band. If your dress sits just below your shoulder blades, then this could work!

I found some longline bras in larger sizes (im usually a 36G, but in the longline had to go with a 38F) on Amazon and was able to utilize AmazonWardrobe, so I could try a bunch of different ones on before deciding on one. I went with a Dominique brand.
