Finding out i am pregnant before my wedding

Emma, on July 13, 2023 at 1:39 PM Posted in Planning 0 8
Hello everyone, I have never used this community feature but I just found out after being engaged for over a year that I am almost 6 weeks pregnant. By the time of our wedding (Sept 30), I will be around 16-17 weeks along. It is such a blessing, but I really don’t want the pregnancy to affect the wedding. Does anyone here have any advice on how to conceal the pregnancy at the wedding or if I will even be showing enough around that time to have to make any changes? My dress is fitted A-line and I have already paid for alterations twice due to other circumstances. If I can avoid more, that would be ideal. Thank you!

Hi and congrats on the pregnancy! Everyone shows different so it might not even be much of an issue. One important thing is that you should definitely eat enough and don't try to minimize weight gain by dieting. Is your dress the type that you could get a lace up back sewn in? That would be easiest I would think! Like a corset back.

    Congrats again!

Congrats Emma!! I think Jacks' suggestion was great - if you can add a lace-up / corset style back to your dress that would definitely be easiest for adjustments!

Every body is different and unfortunately there's no real way to plan for how your body will change throughout pregnancy! I'd just make sure to have another alterations appointment scheduled for about 2 weeks before the wedding in case you need to make any last-minute adjustments!

If you are having alcohol at your wedding and you are not drinking…..I would be prepared for questions. I think it is going to be hard to hide this from your family and guests. Plus, won’t they find out within a few months? It is easy to fool strangers, but these are your closest family and friends .You may consider announcing your pregnancy at your wedding, but it is your call. Congratulations on this happy happy news. It throws a few wrinkles in the plan, but isn’t that the way life works!

    Hi Peyton!

I already rarely drink at family gatherings just because I am not a huge drinker, so I don't think it will make that big of an impact. I can always have sparkling juice or fake taking a sip instead. I don't want the pregnancy (if I announce it that day) to overshadow the wedding, so I would probably announce something after our honeymoon. You are right that life throws wrinkles in our plans, but we have always wanted a baby. So, the timing isn't great, but we are definitely grateful for this child and trust God's timing. Thank you!

    Hi Lynnie!

I have a fitting scheduled about four weeks prior currently. Do you think that will be close enough? I am worried with an intricate dress like mine (it has five layers and lace/beads throughout) that it will not be able to be brought up in size again.

Hi Jacks and thank you for your response! I dont think my dress could have a lace back, just because it is almost all lace and beads throughout. It currently has buttons on the back.

This really helps you avoid awkward questions. Plus the groom can help you stay “refreshed” with plenty of sparkling juice. Congratulations to you both!
