Financing wedding gown?

Vanessa, on November 19, 2013 at 10:35 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 16

Hi ladies, I need some advice.

My wedding date is set for May 9th of next year. Meaning that I have about 6 months left, but I have not ordered my gown yet.

Finances are really tight (all these deposits for vendors and payments are killing us!) so buying a dress is extremely hard right now. But I'm worried about 'waiting too long' and not being able to find something I feel good in.

Any suggestions on low cost bridal salons or places that make payment arrangements in the inland empire or Los Angeles area? I've researched cheap dresses online, but am very nervous about not being able to try it on before I buy.

Can anyone help? Thanks!

DB or AA have some dresses that are not as expensive. And I would try calling around talk to the shops see what their policy is for payment. Some places only need 1/2 down up front and the rest when it comes in.

Yes... the boutique I got my dress at had some type of "layaway" plan. We paid like 50% down and then made payments. I don't even think the minimum was 50%, but that's what my mom wanted to put down.

Try Macy's, JC Penny, or Target...They all have Bridal lines now.

Davids also has that sale that someone mentioned....

I don't know what kind of budget you're working with, but David's Bridal has a ton of dresses under $600 and you get to try them on instead of an online order where you're unsure of the fit. I got my dress there for around $300 and didn't feel like I settled at all--I love my dress.

I am on a very small dress budget too - I am actually looking at bridesmaids dresses and designers that will come in Ivory, in addition to actual bridal gowns. I am planning on adding crinolins underneath to give the poof if I go with an ivory bm dress.

ETA: a bridal boutique owner is the one who suggested ivory/white bridesmaids dresses - never would have thought of it on my own, so maybe talk to an owner/manager and see if they have any suggestions.

Yep, just found out Friday the Davids Bridal has in house credit that gives you 6 months to pay back.

You really do need to find your dress now : ) good luck!

I'm in the LA area, I was in downtown and was with my parents and was 'just looking'. There was quite a few shops that sell off the rack. I wasn't ready to commit at the time, the dress I liked was $1200 (too much for me!) but by the time I came out of the dressing room, the sales girl told me she could discount it to $650. The owner came into the picture and said $499. They also offered lay away. Worth the trip if you're on a budget.

Like everyone else said davids bridal is generally cheap and lets you do layaway. I would google bridal shops in your area and just call around, because sometimes you have t pay off the dress before its ordered! I ordered my dress in June and its not even in yet. So depending on the designer itll take awhile as well. If i were you i would get on the ball with calling places and figuring things out now.

I ordered my dress from AA.... the contract said that I had to pay for it in full when it came in but I got lucky and the mgr of the store is going to hold it and let me pay like $50/mo until it's paid off! Phew! She is a LIFESAVER.... see if you can find someone who will do that for you. I did have to put $200 down on it but that's ok LOL

I bought my dress from David's Bridal. They offered me 2 options; I could put the dress on lay away with no fees but I had to leave the dress there (i bought my dress off the sales floor). I think ifyou have to order a dress this option is not available.

My second option was to get their credit card and it the dress and anthing I bought would be interest free if paid off in 6 months and i got to take the dress home. I choose the second option as my wedding is far away and I have more than enough time to pay it off in 6 months plus still save for my wedding! I have 4 months to go and I'm debt free! I hate getting credit cards that I can only use at one place but I figure I have good credit and this was a special occasion. I won't be doing to DB for anything else so the account will just sit there until I decide to close it later (without affecting my credit too much).

The David's Bridal in-house department store card often has 0% financing as long as you pay your purchase off within 6 months and meet a minimum purchase requirement (usually $500). That's free money right there.

Also: take a look at bridesmaids dresses in white, take a look at consignment boutiques (that's what I did....got dress and veil for at a steal), or look into preowned sites: a lot of those are samples directly from salons.

Most dress shops will let you just put down half the amount in order for them to order the dress. Good luck!
