Finally our countdown is down to 90 days!

Monica, on July 3, 2020 at 11:33 AM Posted in Planning 0 21
It was so sad to see the countdown go from 12 days to 180 after having to postpone but yay we will be at 90 days tomorrow.

But with that being said only 3months away and Im starting to get nervous. I live in California and like most other states in the US our covid cases are rising. Specifically San Joaquin county is starting to have a lott of cases and im worried. Im trying to be optimistic because a lot can change in 3 months. But i feel like this is a setback.
We were still wanting to have our church ceremony and reception regardless if we can only have 50 ppl but what if its not possible in October. Im going to call our venue to see if we can put a soft hold on a date in 2021. I can imagine the year is probably filled up with all the couples who have had to postpone, we would be extremely lucky to get a date early in 2021.
It breaks my heart to think about postponing again. At least DH and I are already married which we did on our anniversary. But I hope DH doesn’t want to outright cancel again (which was his preference when we had to postpone until he found out we wont get any refunds). Im sad but trying not to get too worried but the OCD in me needs to have a backup plan.

The uncertainty is the worst! I completely understand wanting a back up plan, regardless we plan to do what you did and get married on our original date. Here in CO our numbers look good right now, but the summer tourism really worries me. Hopefully we can both have our fall weddings.

I’m in San Diego and the COVID cases have increased and the county may move forward with closing businesses again. Our family informed us last week they don't feel safe traveling to SD not even in 3 months. It’s hard to plan during this uncertain time so we decided this week to postpone our October wedding to next year.

Aw so sad to hear that, nothing you can do especially Hearing that from family. Out here restaurants are forced to close until further notice. I feel worried that there wont be any availability for next year & I dont want to lose our money if we use a different venue.

I’m also CA in October. I keep reading these posts about limits of 50 people. Is that the guideline set somewhere?

I was under the impression that inside was 100 people or 25% capacity and outdoors has no limit.

No actually I cant find any guidelines whatsoever. If you have any links plzz do share! I am going by 50 person guideline only because thats how social gatherings started narrowing down before the shutdown. It started as gatherings only less than 250, then limited to 100 or 150(i cant remember), then limited to 50 ppl then limited to less than 10. Every county guideline can be different. I would be very happy if we could have 100 ppl, 50 person guestlist was very hard (original guestlist was over 200).

If u have any other info pls share. Its like i know There are more important issues to cover but those of us w wedding plans are on the edge of our seats trying to figure out what phase we fall into and when we’re going to get there. Just wanting to plan ahead.

My daughter's wedding is in the Bay Area in Aug. It's on 10 acres with outdoor ceremony and reception (she has a 90 person guest list). Outdoor church/religious and cultural ceremonies of up to 100 people are allowed in CA. The reception falls under outdoor dining with social distancing guidelines. Guests will wear masks at all times except while eating/drinking. Starting July 13th, Santa Clara County is getting rid of phased openings and will allow outdoor gsthy of up to 60 people.

Thank u for that insight! The bay area is only 45min from us. I guess I will talk to the venue next week so see if they know of any guidelines for our county. Unfortunately there is no space for the reception hall to be turned into an outdoor event. The only space would be if we were to move into the parking lot with a tent which is actually quite small. Theres only 1 venue (winery) I know of in my town that could be an outdoor space but Im sure we would lose our money if we switched venues.

Girl I feel you! I’ve been an absolute nervous wreck about our wedding (10/10/20). We did end up speaking with our venue and putting a soft hold on a date next year, then we called all our vendors to do the same and understand what cost (if any) would be associated with a postponement. It was a huge relief to have a backup plan in place and understand the financial implications as well, so when the time comes to make the final decision, we can seamlessly make a change if needed.

One side of the coin is the physical restrictions on even having the wedding, but the other side is how comfortable your guests will be even attending a wedding, along with you (as the bride) being able to enjoy your big day without worrying about guests getting sick/feeling uncomfortable.

What date were u able to get? And how will your soft hold work. The venue will reserve for u but its not set in stone, but what if someone else wants that date?

I feel nervous like why didn’t I think of this a few weeks ago. Im sure 2021 is booked. I didn’t think of having to double check w vendors for the soft hold date. Duh. I guess the most important vendor for me is the caterer.

We pushed a full year to October 9, 2021. With the venue, the soft hold was something they’ve been offering free of charge. So we essentially have first right of refusal. If someone else expresses interest in that date, then the venue will reach out to us to let us know and we’d have to decide right then and there if we were ready to push or risk giving up the date.

Our vendors have all been operating the same way, just holding the date and will let us know if someone else expresses interest. So far our date has been wide open, probably because we’d be pushing a whole year. A lot of our vendors, and our venue, did say that it’s the spring and early summer dates that are quickly filling up.
You will feel so much better once you even have an idea of what dates are available. Start with the venue and have a few dates in mind and see what they have available. Even if they tell you they won’t hold it, you could then quickly reach out to all your vendors to see if the new date would work for them too, then at least you’ll know what you could do and try to make a decision.
I will tell you too, a lot of our vendors and our wedding planner have expressed that they’ve really only seen the 2020 brides rebooking to 2021 versus newly engaged couples booking. I had the same fears about 2021 already being booked but it seems it’s a bit more flexible still than you think. Deep breaths. You got this!

I feel you lady! Date twins & OCD...
FH keeps changing his mind every-other day, after we’ve discussed back-up plans. It’s driving me crazy lol
The stress is real. He’s the worry wort in the relationship and the catastrophic thinker so he’s always thinking of the worst case scenarios. I just want to have our plans laid out & stick to Plan A or Plan B.

Aw I know exactly how it feels for FH to flip flop & change his mind. Im the catastrophic thinker which is why Im more of the realistic one & DH is the dreamer I guess I could say. Im the one who needs a plan A B & C.
Good luck to both of us! Hope we can have our date & not have to postpone. What is your backup date?

Thanks! We don’t have a backup date yet. We meet with our venue coordinator next week so hopefully we’ll find out more details then.
