Filipino Wedding: Sponsor Gifts?

ARA, on May 2, 2016 at 11:52 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 1 6

So I'm having a traditional Filipino wedding and have primary and secondary sponsors. Thinking about what gifts to get them. Can anyone share what they've given? Or have any ideas?

I didn't have any sponsors but I know back home people like to give engraved stuff. Think silver-plated lighters, a photo frame, jewellery boxes, etc. If you're doing joint gifts (one gift for a couple who will be sponsors) then a wine bottle and some flowers would be neat. My parents once received a beautiful crystal ornament as a gift for being Catholic wedding sponsors.

Yes! We had 5 sets of sponsors. So we got each family this wall plaque/cross with their family name on it. They loved them! Some even took them to their church to have them blessed. I loved it so much I bought our family one too. We got them on personalizationmall.com here:

It says "Having somewhere to go is home, having someone to love is family, having both is a blessing."

I've heard of this before and think it's great. I love the cross that they can then take to get blessed in the church.

We didn't do the coin, veil, type sponsors, but we had sponsors to acknowledge some uncles and aunties that have been like secondary parents to us.

I made each sponsor set a gift basket with a fleece throw blanket, a Teavana Perfectea Maker, an assortment of Teavana tea and sugar, a box of Godiva crackers, and some nice hand soaps. We also provided our sponsors with lodging for the weekend of our wedding since most of them were traveling from out of town.

So I just talked to my parents. They said that they had more than seven sponsors and they found gifts for each of them individually. However, they got smaller gifts for each of them. I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions, I'd be happy to ask Smiley smile

Hey I know you posted this a while ago, but how did you go about asking your sponsors? And do your sponsors have to be your elders? Or can you just get your cousins to participate in the rituals?
