Filet mignon or prime rib as part of a plated duet

Tricia, on June 3, 2017 at 4:19 PM Posted in Planning 0 29

Hello! I have decided to serve a duet plated meal at our reception to avoid long buffet lines. The duet will consist of chicken and steak, either filet mignon or prime rib. My fiancé prefers prime rib over filet mignon, which poses the problem. The prime rib, at this venue, is served as a separate carving station which puts us right back with the issue of long lines. I realize everyone may not want steak, which would help with the lines. Has anyone ever offered this combination, and if so, did it pose a problem? We have over 200 invited guests.

Prime Rib for me but if it's a line and carving station, go with steak if everything is to be plated.

I would do the filet. Prime rib (while I do love it) is fattier and as you say, will require a carving station at your venue. They really should be able to plate it, if you choose to go with Prime Rib.

We are doing a carving station for over 200 guests also, but we are doing two. Maybe you could have two stations so people move faster?

I would go with the filet, that seems like it has the better option of pleasing more people.

I love filet! But I also like the idea of no one having to get up!

I like prime rib, but for a plated meal, I prefer filet. I think it's more likely to be cooked the way I like - and it looks cleaner on the plate.

From my experience - People always seem to complain it's too done, or too bloody, or too fatty with prime rib. I don't know why it seems more complained about, but I don't hear as much from parties/weddings with other cuts of meat when I attend events.

I personally would prefer the filet over the prime rib. I'm not a fan of fatty meat and if it takes a carving station then all plated is the way to go.

I love prime rib, but do whatever you can to avoid lines. What are you doing if your guests want a vegetarian entree?

Either is a good choice. If that will be the only station, I'd go with the filet since it's plated!

Do the filet that way the separate station isn't needed and everything can be plated. Most people that after getting to the carving station may come back to cold food

If you do a duet, filet is the only way to go, honestly. The size is better, the presentation is better and it is perceived as fancier. It also doesn't make sense to me to have a plated dinner with a carving station. This coming from me, a prime rib girl all the way.
