Filet mignon or prime rib as part of a plated duet

Hello! I have decided to serve a duet plated meal at our reception to avoid long buffet lines. The duet will consist of chicken and steak, either filet mignon or prime rib. My fiancé prefers prime rib over filet mignon, which poses the problem. The prime rib, at this venue, is served as a separate carving station which puts us right back with the issue of long lines. I realize everyone may not want steak, which would help with the lines. Has anyone ever offered this combination, and if so, did it pose a problem? We have over 200 invited guests.

    I'm confused about your claim that the choice is between buffet and duet. Why not just have people select their meals on the RSVP card as usual?

    I'll be honest: I really dislike duet plates. I virtually never want to eat multiple meats entrees in the same meal. Chicken and beef just don't "go" together unless they are in a specific, cohesive dish that features both. So I find myself choosing one or the other, and feeling guilty wasting the other protein on the plate. And neither serving is filling enough on its own, so I leave hungry as well.

    I will always, always vote for chicken OR beef instead of chicken AND beef. But if you are really set on the duet, then do the filet.

    Many weddings we've attended offered a chicken and filet duet.

    We offered two duets: chicken and scallops and filet and crabcake (plus vegetarian). They were wildly popular. It gave our guests variety; of course, each protein on the duet plate was a half-portion. P.S. I've never seen a buffet with more than 2 meat choices.

    PS. Of course, guests had the option to mix and match; any guest with a shellfish allergy could have had the choice of chicken/filet. Heck, they could have had a double filet or double crabcake, if they had wanted.

    And we had a few pescetarian guests, whose entrée was scallops/crabcake, so it allowed for flexibility. Except for the crabcake, I think the other 3 were gluten free; our one gluten free guest chose the chicken/scallops. ,
