I Figured Out How To Make DIY Candy Bar Wrapper Place Cards.....

May2010Bride, on February 27, 2010 at 9:04 AM Posted in Planning 0 13

I found a site that gave the dimensions of the candy bar wrappers needed to wrap the 1.55 oz Hershey bars. I then used the same graphic we used for our DIY invites and volia....I made my candy bar wrappers rather then spending 30.00 some dollars for someone else on Ebay to make them. If you use photo shop (which I did) the canvas size needs to be 5" width and 6.5"height and the print/pic needs to be 1.5" from the top. Our colors are red/black/silver. My plan is to wrap all the candy bars in cheap aluminum foil (so I have my silver edges not the brown like they now come) and then print my template out on red paper with the black ink. I will type each guests name on them so no hand writing to do. I need to now find some sugar free bars in the same size for all the kids and a few diabetic adults so everyone can have one. Just thought I would pass this info along.....it was EASY to do.

Be sure to post pics when you're done! How many are you making? I was in Staples the other day and saw that they have color copies on sale for .19 each which is normally .49 so that's a very good price. I've been trying to think of something I might need printed with color but since we are doing mostly black and white I can't think of anything lol!

I prolly won't have them done for another few weeks since I just did the template today. If I wanted to hand write the guests names I guess I could go to staples and have them print them all out....need to think about that...Ladylee...do you know how long that sale was on for? Just wondering since I have not bought the red paper to have it printed on yet. We are shooting for 65 guests so about 70 I am thinking of printing at least 70. Need to figure out costs. FH does NOT want the table numbers written on them since he is afraid if we want to move people around last min. So we will make a small printable chart of what table everyone is at (so if we need to print it the night before with changes we can) and then we will place each candy bar at each seat....or something along those lines.

You could always do your seating chart on a white erase board so you can erase and move people around. If you need to.

I looked for an end date but it just said For a limited time only. To do 70 would cost you about $13. And most of the print shops run sales all the time. So maybe just make up your templates and see what's available when you get ready to do them.

Great idea......thank you...I like that. I still am not keen on placing the candy AT each seat at the table. This is one thing FH is wanting but I just feel like if one person wants to sit one direction (towards dance floor, away, or next to someone) by us putting the candy at a specific seat I think it might be odd. He just tells me that if they don't like where they are sitting at the table they will just exchange seats with someone there. So...I dunno.

Cool, May2010 bride. Thanks for the information! I've bought my candywrappers already (several months ago), but may make some myself. Where are you buying your bars ? I went to Walmart many months ago and they only sell the candybars that have the foil and wrapper in one. I need to find candy bars (Hershey bar) with the foil so then I can place my wrapper on top of that.

What if you put their name on the the bar and then put table and leave it blank and then you could fill in the number with a black sharpie when you are 100% sure.

    Ms. Jane Smith

    Table

If you do it in a simpler font with no line you may be able to get away with it or you could always get those numbers that you rub on.- I forget what they are called, but you put them on and rub it on with a coin or a pencil and pull it off and voila. If you did that you could get a font to match. Just a thought, that way maybe you and your FH can get both what you want.

@Jaemi- I like the sharpie idea...I might do that even though FH is really hesitant to have table numbers...so I dunno.

@MDLS I went online to sams and saw that one box of the 1.55 Herseys are $16.04 for 36 bars...this is the best price I found around for them. They no longer make the hershey bars with the foil ends...that is why I am going to buy cheap tin foil and wrap all of them myself (yes more work but worth the final look).

@May2010 just wondering is FH planning on doing the seating chart? I know you said that you are having 60-70 people, but that is a lot of people to do a 100% seating chart as opposed to doing a table assignment.

@May2010 bride, oh okay. Thanks for the information. I never even noticed they had gone to the one wrapper instead of foil and a wrapper, I don't know when i went to that. That's also for the Sam's info!! Gotta save where you can, lol!!

@Jaemi..I'm with you on that...but 1/3 is his co-workers, 1/3 my co-workers and then the rest family/friends. So everything "should" fall into placing...but no, he didn't offer to do the seating chart. We shall see ....
