Fiance doesn't like the idea of beaches??

So I'm not getting married for a few years for personal reasons, but my fiancé does not want to have our honeymoon anywhere tropical or at a beach... I'm not sure what kind of ideas are available that aren't exactly tropical. I'd love some help to figure this out!

What type of honeymoon are you guys looking for? Some things to consider would be are you wanting activities or a more relaxing type honeymoon? Do you want to stay in the U.S. or are you wanting to go to different country? Are your rooms important to you or are the cultures, food, etc more important? Some things to consider might be a location that has a beach area for you to enjoy, but also things that your fiance might enjoy (hiking trails, historic landmarks, etc). You could also do a multi destination type honeymoon. Sit down and make a list with your FH on what are must haves for each of you, what you can compromise on, and what you absolutely do not want.

Just remember that when it comes to booking you might want to have an idea of where you want to book now, but there could be specials closer to your date that will save you money. Look at booking between one and two years out. Especially for cruises you can sometimes find some great two for one deals in this time frame. And because you are planning on booking so far out make sure you have a cancellation policy with a good refund policy even if it costs you more money in the beginning it can end up saving you money in the long run if you end up having to cancel.

We book a lot of honeymoons to Iceland and Europe. These are both great options for non-tropical destinations. Europe has so much history and culture. It's perfect for a non-beachy honeymoon.

We took a trip to Iceland and it was a blast! We are considering going back for our honeymoon. Blue Lagoon is a wonderful hot spring that is better than any beach I've been to.

I wouldn't stress about that now... You're over 4 years out. Enjoy being engaged!

Samantha my DH was the same way. His reasoning was he doesn't like the beach. BUT he had never actually been to a beach. In fact besides the few "vacations" (I put that in quotes because they were actually trips to visit my family in Texas and Colorado) we have taken he had never been on a real vacation.

I love the beach. It is truly my happy place. I am not one to sit still. I am always up doing something even while at home I don't just relax. But on the beach I sit and don't move except to get drinks.

Anyway, I started researching honeymoons and discovered in Belize we could spend half our time on the beach and half our time in the Jungle. I planned out a trip. Made sure the Jungle had things that he would enjoy. Then I proposed this to him.

To my surprise he agreed even though it meant 5 days on the beach. We went. We loved it! He now loves the beach! And in fact I have to say I enjoyed the jungle just as much as the beach.

Be open and look at options that would include more than just a beach. Would I have been happy spending 10 days with my ass in the sand. Sure. But we compromised and it was amazing! DH is open to going back to a beach and I am open to going back to a jungle.

Honeymoons do not have to be spent in one place. Explore. Do things you both like.

"The mountains are calling and I must go"

I love the quote; also a good idea.

DH and I hate beaches too. We can't swim, he hates sand, and I come from a tropical country, so tropical destinations don't feel like a holiday to me.

We went to Europe, because we found an amazingly inexpensive flight deal. If you want to go abroad, you could travel to cultural destinations in Canada (Quebec) or Mexico (pretty much any non-beach town). As people have said before, both in the US or abroad you could go to a mountain resort, a ski lodge, a cabin in the woods... If you don't hate big cities, those make awesome destinations too, because they have tons of whatever you might like: museums, bars, clubs, historical venues, festivals, concerts... The world is your oyster Smiley smile

Go somewhere romantic and different. We did a roadtrip through Ireland (via a Groupon for $1000 pp including air) a few years ago and it was wonderful. We stayed in a different B&B and city each night and I loved the whole experience. Inexpensive and a once in a lifetime adventure with lots of fun memories.
