FH wants a January wedding, I don't.

We live in Massachusetts, I don't think he is being realistic. I would love a March wedding but he refuses to budge. Has anyone had a January wedding or is having one?

I really dislike the idea of a January wedding, there's just so much that could go wrong...on the plus side, your FH seems really excited to make you his wife!

I'm sorry but I would never do a January wedding. Not even a wedding during any month of the year in which snow could happen. It's just one more thing to worry about ruining your day! I think January and March could be equally risky.

I grew up in NH and I totally understand but honestly there are weather risks in both January and March. My parents got two feet of snow this year on April 1st. There are no guarantees with any season anywhere. I think a January wedding could be lovely, although there are travel risks.

I'm having a January wedding, but I'm also in Texas. It's indoor as well. For me, the weather is perfect here in January and it's the best time for us.

Edit: some people (me) love the idea of a January wedding.

Could you meet in the middle and do February?

January wedding in Mass--are you nuts? The logistics of dealing with h potential snow storms would keep me up at night.

Honestly March isn't safe from snow in MA but I wouldn't want to do January in New England with a lot of OOT guests. While snowy pictures are beautiful, a blizzard that prevents your guests or vendors from getting to your wedding would be awful. Even if you can postpone in the event of a blizzard, the fees would probably negate any savings you got.

I think you should stand your ground. Remind your FH how upsetting it would be to invest all of this time and hard earned money in to a wedding that gets snowed out.

Guys, February is not a compromise, that's probably the worst winter month statistically!

@emilyv, glad the dates worked out for you! Lent was a big issue when we were first considering an off-season/winter wedding date.

I'm in NH. I considered this to save money but decided against it. Do you have guests flying in? They could potentially have flights canceled or delayed. What if they announce a blizzard and a state of emergency and people can't make it? I mean I think Feb is worse than Jan with the snow around here but that would be my only concern.

I considered a January wedding in MA because I love the winter! Most of the guests would be OOT so we went with June but I was looking at Harrington Farms in central Mass or Willowdale Estates in the north shore. Both venues have beautiful inside ceremony sites. They would be beautiful in the snow!

I'm amused by all the people suggesting February as a compromise date.. as a native Massachusettsan I think that's consistently the worst month for snow.

March is iffy because of potential gross old snow but I still think I'd rather risk that than bigger snowstorms in January. Yes, we could still get snow, but the bigger storms tend to be Jan/Feb. Another consideration is that January is right after the holidays and if you have a lot of OOT people, they may not be able to afford it/have the time off to travel again so soon after the holidays.

We came THIS close to choosing a Jan date. We initially wanted one because some of the venues we were looking at were cheaper in Jan and Feb. Then I started falling in love with the idea of a winter wedding.

Then we picked a venue that didn't offer off-season discounts, and I saw pics of outdoor ceremonies and ended up picking October.

If the choices were Jan or March, I'd choose Jan. I'm near Chicago where both months are miserable, but I actually think March is worse. It's still winter even though everyone wants it to be spring, it's wet, it's cold, it's muddy. No thanks.

We briefly entertained the idea of a Jan-March wedding for budgeting reasons. We eventually found a venue that allowed us to have a wedding for the same pricing any day of the year. Do you actually WANT a wedding in either of those months? Some people like winter and creating that cozy winter wonderland feel. Personally, I'm just not one of those people. I would consider talking about an earlier month in the Autumn or later month in the Spring/Summer.

I have a friend in Rochester NY having a January wedding. Mine is in December so I see nothing wrong with a winter wedding.

My fear would be there's a snow storm and the roads would be impassible.

I went to a January wedding in NYC. The weather actually wasn't too bad. There wasn't any snow on the ground. Although it did rain at first, but the temperature actually wasn't cold. I'm not sure why they choose January, I never asked. Finances maybe. Winter weddings are a lot cheaper.

I'm from mass and we're having our wedding January 20th. We specifically picked a place that had lodging right there for our guests in case of a snow storm but honestly, these past few years we have gotten most of the snow in feb and march (my bday is in march and i cant remember the last time there wasn't snow on the ground for it) We are also getting an amazing price (so are our guests for rooms) because of the time of year.

We're in MA and when we were thinking about dates, February crossed our mind (dating anniversary). We ended up picking May. . . My sister got married in December and it was beautiful. This was a few years ago, and I remembered that it wasn't that cold.

January is an off season month, so you'll be able to save a lot of money. A lot of venues actually offer discount if you have a wedding off season. Off season is also nice because it's not busy. You'll be able to find vendors with ease.

But I believe March is also an off season month.

If it were me, I would go with January. I love winter, I loveeee the snow ha ha ha. I've seen so many beautiful winter wedding pictures with snow, snowfall etc.

    Good luck!
