FH wants a January wedding, I don't.

We live in Massachusetts, I don't think he is being realistic. I would love a March wedding but he refuses to budge. Has anyone had a January wedding or is having one?

I wouldn't want a wedding in January neither. I live in New England also, but March is still a crapy month. I feel like this past April we had 80 degree days and the next day it would be 38...January to April are tough months here. you don't know what you are going to get...

Well, if he sticks to his guns and you stick to your guns, there won't be any wedding in January. You both need to compromise.

I'm in Rhode Island, so I agree with you you could be pushing your luck with a blizzard. But if you moved to March there's a chance you could still have snow. You know how New England weather is, it's going to be a gamble for either month. I know someone who was married in December in Ri and it turned out to be a 60 degree day Smiley smile

Living in upstate ny - pretty close to MA I would go with the January wedding. March is pretty much the most disgusting month weather wise around here and you never know if its going to snow, rain, sleet, thunderstorm you name it. At least January is more predictable and its usually frozen over.

I would be extremely worried to have it in New England in January.

My wedding is in January 2018 at a venue that is near the Detroit River in Michigan. Our weather in January varies from year to year. This year it was dry and in the 40s-50s. I'm hoping for snow next year but just enough for pretty pics and not a blizzard. We were able to get our venue/caterer and decorator for discounted rates because of the off season. My FH is also a military veteran so we got A LOT of discounts because of that too.

We chose January for a few reasons:

    1. The pricing

    2. This is our second marriage for both of us and I was married in the spring and he in the summer so we wanted something different.

    3. We love the ideas of the snowy pics.

    4. Honeymoon in a warm place while everyone else is freezing!

    5. Some Christmas decorations are still up at the venue and help with the look we're going for

Why do you want a March wedding instead of January? Maybe each do a list of why you want that month and compare. You might be able to compromise somehow.

January in Massachusetts? You're taking an awful risk. Choose a sunnier date.

I know March can be a bad winter month where I live in MD. My only concern with either month would be if it snows bad enough, guests might not make it. We originally wanted October 2018, but because we didn't want to wait we compromised on April 2018, so I can understand his argument. I see your date (right now) is March 2019, what about late 2018?

I think if I had to choose between March and January in MA (I'm from the northshore), I would probably go with January. If it does snow, it's usually fresh snow and it's pretty. Like others have said here, March is unpredictable - could be 80 degrees or a blizzard! Not to mention, if it hasn't snowed in a while in March, then it's just dirty and piled up IMO.

Fellow MA bride here, I had to rule out any winter months because my family would be coming in from Buffalo and it was just too much to ask the weather gods that there be no inclement weather in Buffalo, MA, or anywhere in upstate NY along the way. I actually do think that January would be nicer than March, because at least if it does snow, it's fresh and clean, whereas March you tend to get a gross rain/sleet/snow mix where the snow just piles on top of other dirty snow. But honestly you're rolling the dice with either in these parts.

Marina, I don't know if he is Eastern Orthodox or not but March starts lent and their is no Eastern Orthodox Church that will marry someone , with the exception of military, during the great fast.

I'm in MA and had a February wedding. It was great, there was about 3 feet of snow on the ground, and 60 degrees and sunny. Like others have said, vendors were cheaper, our venue included our champagne toast, our caterer threw in an extra hot h'ordeuvre and our DJ included the up lighting for no additional charge. Also we save a lot of money on our honeymoon because it was off season, and the resort was great, because it wasn't so busy.

@Sarahmouche We originally wanted a February wedding but we never heard of not being able to have a wedding in a church during Lent. But it was very important to us that we got married in a church so we pushed our wedding back to before Lent.

My FH immediately said that he did not want a winter wedding. My cousin had a blizzard at his wedding the first week of December and one of his groomsmen was in a car accident on the way to the ceremony!
