FH wants a January wedding, I don't.

Marina, on June 22, 2017 at 10:25 PM Posted in Planning 0 83

We live in Massachusetts, I don't think he is being realistic. I would love a March wedding but he refuses to budge. Has anyone had a January wedding or is having one?

Why is he set on a January wedding?

What are the reasons for a January vs. March wedding. Sentimental? Financial? I was dead set on a March wedding because the weather would be perfect in PR. My FH and mom convinced me to wait until June to save more. I'm so happy they did! You guys need to talk this out.

We are, but we live in texas, so it makes sense. I wanted it the first Saturday of February, but God forbid we have a wedding Super Bowl weekend.

He doesn't want a even longer engagement. He also would like snowy surroundings. Whereas march he calls an "in between month". I'm just concerned that the first blizzard of the year will decide to happen the day before or of the wedding.

I mean, if MA is anything like the Midwest, it could still snow in March.

How many OOT guests do you have? Do you hate the snow? A winter wedding is beautiful but if my parents were in danger of not making it, I would put my foot down. He may have wedding brain. Time flies and January vs. March is not a huge difference. When I wanted a March wedding and my family was convincing me to consider June I freaked out thinking about how long we'd be engaged. Now I'm amazed at how fast time has gone by.

ETA: I agree with @fallinthegarden. It can snow in April. If that was a concern I'd consider late April/May. But I imagine with the way things are now that's not an option.

I'm hoping for a January wedding for almost the exact same reason your FH does. I love winter and snow and want to have a romantic, cozy feeling wedding. I'm in the Midwest as well and like PP's have said, the chances for snow are just as high in March as January.

We have alot of OOT guests. I'm just so overwhelmed because he isn't budging at all. I'm afraid I will agree on a January wedding and then regret it

I don't mind the snow I just don't want it to be a state of emergency or extreme blizzard like January 2015 in Massachusetts

January AND March in MA both seem pretty bad. I don't think one is worse than the other.

I am in New Hampshire and from Boston. Let's be real. If you plan a wedding between January and March, there's like an 80% chance there will be a huge snow storm.

If you want a shorter engagement plan for like April. 3 months won't kill FH

I had one and loved it. it cost less, I had my choice of vendors and the chill in the air kept me from sweating but the movement of the day kept me from feeling cold. Oh and I'm in pa area.

Our wedding was almost in January. We chose the date and locked it in (I am in Florida) then I realized a 7:00 pm ceremony would be held in the dark and we changed the date to the first week in March after daylight savings.

I feel like there really isn't a big difference between January and March, especially in MA. They're both kind of gross and miserable with the possibility of terrible weather.

I'm from CT. The last few years, we have definitely gotten the worst snow storms in March! January has been so nice. I would choose January over March in a heartbeat! (and I'm getting married during the hottest week of the year)

On a positive note, as someone who is also getting married in MA I've heard that venues are somewhat cheaper during the winter since it falls in the wedding off season so you could save some money that way.

Look at venues. Maybe everything is booked for January. Even if it's a less popular wedding month, there's a risk with short engagements. Maybe when he falls in love with a venue that isn't available on his preferred date he'll start getting realistic.

Btw, do you already have a venue picked out? Meaning you visited, talked with the coordinator, and know that a date in Jan and March are available? Or are you just talking.. picking a month?

I'm also not a fan of this "no budging" stance. You're prioritizing your OOT guests and he's not budging just because the snow is pretty? Is he even trying to convince you? Or just stubborn?

I'm from IL so I've always viewed March as a yucky month! Still cold, but slushy instead of snow.. And then it snows in April so it's weird. I'd choose Jan over March, but both just seen like dreary months
