FH said we look selfish and snobby according to our registries

Mrs Schmidt, on September 27, 2013 at 2:30 PM Posted in Planning 0 17

Seriously...we have quite the mixture of things on each list. Snobby, yes...sorry if liking the finer things in life makes me snob. I don't like cheap stuff that falls apart. Things built to last, my bad. I did put smaller dollar items b/c well we need those too and to be respectful of people's budgets. OF COURSE, when he got that scan gun last night...he beeped everything.lol beep beep beep. what a goof! He get's so concerned on how we or I look to other people (his family) but then preaches up a storm of how he doesn't care what people think.....uh so then why worry?!lol

Someone once told me that registries are for things you need or would never buy yourself. Well, I need a kitchen aide and will never buy one for myself, so you can bet that went on the registry. And the real one, too.

It's not snobby to like what you like.

Registries are wish lists. You are not a snob.

I don't think it matters. If people think your stuff is too expensive they will give you a gift card or cash. I didn't want to register in the first place, but since I ended up having to do it I was definitely only going to register for stuff that was nicer than what I already had. And the stuff I already had was pretty expensive.

I love creating a registry....heck I'd do it for fun just so I didn't have to go back and search for stuff.

@Amy - I told him the same thing!!!

I think it's fine to put quality stuff on the registry and doesn't look snobbish. But, I also think putting a few less expensive items on there for people who don't have the money at least if the registry is for a shower, so that they can afford a gift to give you from your registry. Some of my friends were still in college, I wouldn't expect them to be able to afford a $50 item on my registry for my shower.

He's the one that wants to invite people he know won't come just so they'll send a gift.

FH scanned EVERYTHING!!!!!! three toasters, a 700$ vacuum, , luggage that costs way more than my photographer, than 20$ nose hair clippers!

i let him add it all. a few weeks later his aunt asked us if she could put some money towards the vacuum cleaner instead of buying it. he looked confused and asked me why i would put such an expensive item on the list. HA! that night i made him look at all the nonsense he added, it was all deleted. Smiley smile

It's a wish list. Not a demand list. Your guests don't have to get you anything from the registry. I have a $200 vase on mine (which FH scanned). I very highly doubt anyone is going to get it for me.

I think it's totally fine to put nicer things on the registry. Even if some things are out of price range for most people (like Cristina's $700 vacuum--was it a Dyson? I've been dreaming of a special Dyson pet hair vacuum for years. Aaaand I'm a nerd), bigger ticket items let a lot of people go in on a group gift. I've done this for friends' weddings in the past and it's kinda nice! I don't feel as cheap contributing $50 to a $400 gift as I would just giving $50!

I was feeling the same way when we registered! I was so concerned about putting that kitchen aid mixer on there but I stalked the registry the other day and someone actually bought it! Also keep in mind that some people may go in on a gift together, which I believe is the case with the kitchen aid purchase on my registry. Scan away I say!

I have a ton of stuff that cost a more but i go by the reviews and if has high ones i know it's worth the price. What i did with my the dishes i want i added the items separately instead of a set so people can buy what they can afford. I did add some things that we don't need but want that are kinda high.

When I asked FH if we should change some of the stuff to a more mid range price rather than the top-of-the line expensive stuff he said put both on the registry and people can choose? Should you register for different types of the same item to give choice, or just put the preferred one on? I'm concerned with it looking like we want both.

Helllllloooo...the whole purpose of a registry is to (hopefully) get things that A-you probably don't "need" but want and B-stuff that newlywed couples can't afford! Duh or we would buy it ourselves...FYI...we got the kitchen aide mixer from the girls at work. We are getting the new DYSON vacuum from gift cards and returns.

If a vacuum makes me a snob...then I am a super incredibly happy snob

We got all of the expensive stuff first.. including a beast of a kitchen aid and a pricey vacuum. Register for what you want.. You aren't FORCING them to get anything.

I agree with the others. You don't look like a snob but you want quality.. Your not going to go buy a new set of dishes every year ...

Like everyone said, you have something for all budgets. People appreciate registries.

On another note, I lived in Livonia for many years so I look forward to the details of your wedding even moreso now that I know the area and that you are so close by!

Whoa, the Livonia note was meant for Lori, sorry. Still new at this... :\
