FH Doesn’t want a Wedding Band

AJ, on August 1, 2021 at 8:57 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 17
FH made it clear to me that he doesn’t want a wedding ring/won’t ever wear it. He says he wants to eventually get a tattoo on his ring finger instead. Should I still get him one for the ceremony, even though I know he won’t wear it after?

What about a silicone ring? One of my friends is an electrician and can't wear a metal ring for safety reasons, so he wears a silicone band. He buys like a pack of 10 on Amazon for around $10 lol.

My husband is a firefighter & can’t wear metal at work. He has a silicone one he wears at work that he bought from Amazon. I bought him a ring from metalmasters.com for only $22 for the ceremony.

Thanks Michelle! Yeah I was thinking about getting a cheaper metal one for ceremony/picture purposes. I’ll ask him about the silicone!

I thought about that, I’m not sure how he would feel about that, he’s a physicians assistant so not sure if he would even be able to do the silicone with always wearing gloves or if that would be annoying

I work in a hospital and I see doctors and nurses with wedding bands (metal and silicone) all the time, even my friend who is an ER doctor wears a titanium ring at work.

My FH told me he probably wouldn't wear one daily but defiantly wanted one for the wedding. The one he picked out also came with a silicone on so he might wear that one more often. He did say he would wear the band on special occasions.

I work as an athletic director and have several friends who work in health care. Silicone rings can absolutely be worn with gloves, and they don't run the risk of catching in machinery or entrapping or degloving your finger. Many people who work in healthcare also wear simple metal bands - a gemstone in a raised setting can be problematic with gloves, but a plain band isn't an issue. Silicone bands are probably the safest option though.

If you want a band to exchange at the ceremony I would just get him a silicone ring. Whether or not he ever wears it after is up to him, but they are super inexpensive ($10-$40), so no more than a bunch of other things you are buying for your wedding that probably won't ever get used again.

I work at an urgent care and wear gloves often, I wear a silicone ring at work (instead of my normal engagement ring) and I have no issues! Check with him on those because I honestly love mine so much I wear it way more than my actual ring. I got a 7 pack on Amazon for like $6 and it has different colors/patterns.

Thanks Kari! I talked to him about it it briefly - he said he would look for a simple metal band for the ceremony. He made a face at silicon but didn't say much haha

Both my husband and I have silicone rings as well as our metal bands. Hubby considered an alternative material ring but found they were thicker than gold and didn't feel comfortable on his finger. If your FH doesn't think he will wear it at all there are plenty of lower cost metal or alternative options. One of my friends made his and his wife's rings out of wood!

My FH cannot wear a ring for his job either, but he could still have a band for when you guys go out, etc.? I think you could get him an inexpensive band and at least have it for the ceremony!

My fiancé works with his hands so I got him three bands from Groove Life. Two Marvel bands and they threw in a “surprise band” which oddly enough is dark green - his fave color. They are silicone bands but super cute.

Let him pick one of those for the ceremony and see where it goes.
