FH does not want a wedding ring (but a tattoo instead)

HoneyBee, on July 12, 2017 at 2:45 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 32

Just curious if anyone else has been through this. My FH does not want a ring, as of right now. I am unsure if he will change his mind.

He works as a firefighter/paramedic and he said having something on his hand might get in the way. So currently he rather do a ring tattoo. Any thoughts on this? I am not traditional so I do not mind.

Also anyone have a tattoo as a ring? Or anyone have any ideas he can do for a ring tattoo?

Thank you! Smiley smile

All I know is that tattoos on hands wear off quickly (think of how often you wash your hands) due to the skin shedding away - so he would need it touched up relatively often. Other than that, why not?? DH was considering this until he started wearing his band and didn't end up hating it like he thought he would.

I know a couple that did this! They still have the rings, but they say that they barely wear their rings and like the tattoos alot better.

I don't think there's anything wrong with getting a tattoo instead of a ring.

Has he considered a silicone ring for when he's working and a regular ring for the wedding ceremony and other special occasions/times he isn't working? I would've wanted H to still have a ring even if he wasn't going to wear it all the time.

I've seen this on machinists at work. One had the wedding date in Roman numerals, I thought that was awesome

Tell him to check out Enso or Qalo rings as an option. These are the rubber band rings PP was referring to. I have an Enso for work(healthcare) and it's pretty comfortable.

I know a few couples who did this!

FH has a ring but works with his hands on machines all the time so for safety he will probably also get a tattoo for when he is at work and wear his ring on the weekends.

I was thinking about doing this as well, and decided against it. Does your FH have other tattoos? Most tattoo artists will not do hands unless you already have tattoos. Just something to think about/ask the tattoo artist if he ultimately decides to do so.

Be careful because they fade pretty badly.

My dad surprised my mom with a wedding band tattoo (even though he hates them as I learned first hand when I got my first). He has managed to lose 3 wedding bands during the course of their 30+ year marriage and decided this is one he won't lose. He worked construction for years and still works with his hands a lot.

My fiancé and I considered it. He is a mechanic and can not wear any type of jewelry at work plus he also has hand tattoos. Yes they fade but not nearly as much or as fast as some may think. When we went shopping for my band he found one he loved and is now super excited to wear it on the weekends!

@elphaba My brother got a tattoo on his ring finger but it was a flame or something. He got divorced and turned it into a spider. Which is dumb because now it just looks like a spider wedding ring tattoo.

My FH has a silicone ring to wear while working (he's a marine and is at every morning), we will also both be getting tattoos after the "I do's" just be careful on design because they do fade more quickly than other tattoos and shrink up so don't go too fancy

FH and I have not discussed this (he doesn't like tattoos), but I have always liked this idea!

Is a silicone ring out of the question?

I'm a nursing student and wash my hands 5000 times a day so I don't wear my ring there but I do have a Qalo ring and I love it!

We're getting wedding tattoos! We're both getting hearts on our ring fingers, but mine will be tiny (to be under my rings, more of a private symbol and for when I take my rings off) and his will be a bigger heart displayed all the time. He has a couple of other tattoos, and he hates the physical feeling of wearing rings, so since we aren't too traditional it works perfectly for us. He still has a simple ring for the wedding and for anytime he wants to wear a physical one.

    ETA: clarity

I have several tattoos and love them. That said ring tattoos are not for me.
