Feeling so discouraged about wedding dress shopping.

Marina, on March 2, 2020 at 3:53 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 8

Back Story … I got engaged last February 2019 went wedding dress shopping July 2019 fell in love with a dress at DB .. but I thought I only fell in love with the dress because it was the only one that fit me and made my shape look great. Now after trying on at least 15 dresses from then to now I've never felt more insecure about my body. Has this happened to anyone else? I've tried on dresses in all cuts I'm so convinced that I'll end up wearing jeans for my wedding. Any advice on how get excited to go dress shopping again. I live in Southern California and could use any suggestions.

Have you tried dresses similar to the one you liked at DB? Liking a dress because it fits and looked great on you (made your shape look great) is a pretty good reason to like a dress I think. Why did you discard that one?

I agree with Kim. Part of choosing a dress is that it makes you look good and the other part is that it makes you feel good. That’s exactly how I choose my dress.

I discarded it because I thought it was to early to get my dress 18 months before the wedding and thought no I cant take the first one that fits ... Also my mom an FMIL didn't care for it to much so it put me off. I have tried on at least 8 similar fitting to that one and none come close to that WOW factor everyone talks about. now that I go back to find the dress I tried on its no longer available in my size. Smiley sad

Awww bride, it’s ok. I went through something similar. I had this vision of my dream dress and when I tried on that style, it made me look extra short (I’m 5 feet tall) and extra frumpy. People with me were actually telling me this too! Haha

Are you trying on specific styles only? Or anything and everything under the sun? I ended up loving a dress I never even would have considered, but the bridal shop consultant asked me to try on. It hugged my body in a way that really flattered it and the detailing was beautiful. I felt amazing in it.
I definitely recommend trying on things that you may not think will look good on you. You might be pleasantly surprised.
Unfortunately, like most brides, I had to go on a pretty strict diet for the wedding so when I went for my fitting I actually had to to take it in over 7 inches (that was after I had ordered the dress a size smaller than my size at the time I bought it). However, I was not as vigilant on my workout regiment so I had flabby arms and “back fat” on my wedding day. Still felt great, but if you can start a diet/workout plan early on, you’ll be feeling even more beautiful and great on your big day! Smiley smile

I got engaged on Thanksgiving Day last year, went dress shopping “just to look” the following day because my mom was in town then. And ended up ordering a dress that day. Our wedding is March 13, 2021. We didn’t even have a date set when I ordered the dress! 😳 Of course now I’m worried it will be too cold in March in Gatlinburg for my dress, but eh I’m doing it. LOL
I say that to say you just have to go in with an open mind. I agree with a PP who recommended trying on all different styles and types of dresses. You never know what you might like. Stay positive. You will find a dress you love. Keep an open mind and don’t take mom and FMIL dress shopping with you. Take a friend. Honestly I went with my mom that day because I expected her to be super negative and I just wanted to get that out of the way and then I expected to go later with a friend. That’s not how it ended up, but I say skip the mom shopping and take a trusted friend with you.
Good luck girl! You got this!
Here is my dress. Not what I expected at all: Feeling so discouraged about wedding dress shopping. 2
