feeling self-conscious about my arms

Kelly , on August 8, 2012 at 10:18 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 21

Ok ladies...I need a pep talk please. I'm overweight and normally don't wear sleeveless shirts. The wedding gown I fell in love with is sleeveless and all I can think about is what people will think when I'm standing at the altar for 20 minutes. I know better than to even give a second thought to what others think. Maybe its the stress of wedding planning but with 39 days to go, I' m really uneasy about it. Anyone else going through this?

Yep. I'm average weight, but I HATE my arms. I've spent too long standing in the mirror, holding them up, and jiggling arm fat. It's a place us ladies (especially if you're busty) love to pack weight!

Remember that no one but you cares, or will notice. No normal person in the history of the world has looked at a beautiful bride and said "she's glowing... too bad about the arm fat" Take a deep breath, and remember that you'll look beautiful to everyone (especially your partner) no matter what!

You will be beautiful regardless and the people who will be at your wedding are people who love you and already know what you look like (I assume). If you are super self conscious though, there are some beautiful lace cover ups/jackets that can be worn over the dress. Also, you still have 39 days, you could start doing some weights/push ups to tone your arms. 39 days is long enough to make your arms a little firmer.

I think every bride whether you are tall short heavy thin young old goes through what you are mentioning! Everyone wants to be perfect on their big day and you WILL be perfect!. Remember that whoever is in the crowd on your wedding day are people that love you and are HAPPY for you. Besides the only set of eyes that really matter are your groom's. Best wishes! Smiley smile

Im in the same boat. I hate my arms, but I have been tanning and lifting weights and it has really helped give them a slimmer appearance.

I do agree with the other ladies. We are our own worst critics and Ive never been to a wedding and noticed or thought about the bride's arms. Everyone will just be noticing how beautiful you look.

I feel silly about this but I've been practicing holding my arms on my hips or at similar angles so they don't squish down and look fatter than they are. So at least you are not the only one to worry about this.

I'm having the same problem! I'm double the size I was 15 years ago. I'm not proud of my arms either and the gown I chose is strapless and shows my arms too. I'm going to tan soon so at least they will look nice.. Besides have a few drinks and you wont be thinking of anything but the next awesome song you'll be dancing to!

I haaaate my arms. You are not alone! But I think the other ladies are right, we are our own worst critics. No one will be looking at your arms so just try not to think or stress about it! You'll be gorgeous, I'm sure of it!

I have big arms, too, so that's what I notice in all my wedding pics. However, I'm the only one...everybody else talks about my dress and how pretty I looked. Focus on the man who loves you and your 'abundant' arms that hug him with lots of love! Smiley smile

That is all I am thinking about right now is how much i hate my arms in pictures. I am wanting to do some kind of arm work outs to tone them up. I have plenty of time and you have plenty of time if that is what you are wanting to do.

Oh I hate my arms too!! I put on my dress for my parents and my dad took pictures and I looked at them and cried because my arms look so awful. BUT the moral of the story from this post seems to be that we are ALL insecure about our arms. And we all need to stop worrying about it and remember that we are all beautiful wonderful brides and everyone will think we look perfect on our wedding days Smiley smile

Thank you for all of your supportive comments everyone. It's nice to know that I'm not alone in these feelings. I'll probably print all of these and read them right before walking down the aisle Smiley smile

I am a plus size girl too, but what I notice, is that we are the most critical of ourselves. And, if you've ever looked at pictures of brides, no matter what size, I always think they're absolutely beautiful. Your friends and family will not notice your bat wings. Smiley smile

Though that is the one thing I thought about when I've started looking at dresses! Lol. If you're really worried, get a bolero or a jacket of some kind that matches your dress, however, I really think you'll look just lovely!

The alterations lady was very nice and had me try on a bolero and then also draped fabric to see how off the shoulder sleeves would look. It looked like I was trying to cover up my arms (haha) so we ditched that idea. All of you are giving me extra confidence so I think I'll be ok now :-) Best wishes to each of you beautiful ladies!

You will look beautiful! I've never been to a wedding where I thought about the bride's arms ;D Don't stress about it. You'll be distracted by your groom, and getting married and won't even think about your arms, and everyone will be too busy thinking how lovely you and everything else is to pay attention to one body part.

Rock it! I am plus size and know exactly how you feel. Someone recently gave me some advice and said as long as you stand up tall and proud with your wedding day glow you will be the most beautiful women in the world! It's true. I've never seen an ugly bride. You'll be with your loved ones and they won't be thinking about your arms.

Aww... I hate my arms too. I call them my hamhock arms! I've been doing arm exercises like crazy. And just doing them 4x's a week has helped. It will definitely make you feel more confident too on your big day. Don't be so hard on yourself. You will be beautiful!! Also, don't stress in trying to cover them up! I'm sure the gown you chose is perfect! If you got it flaunt it!!
