Feeling restricted in a mermaid gown...

KM, on February 6, 2014 at 10:52 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 35

Personally, I want to shake my ass on my wedding day. The issue is that I love the mermaid gown style on me, but hate the thought of not being able to move from the knees up for an entire day. Ladies who are married and wore a mermaid gown, did you feel restricted the whole time, or were you able to move freely?

    I tried on a mermaid gown and it was my #2. It was so beautiful and I loved it the look of it, but I couldn't even sit down in it. So I chose my dress instead.

    I went with a ball gown, but I've always wondered how you pee in a mermaid gown. Seems like it would be a hassle!

    Most of the mermaids don't come all the way down to the knees for that reason. Mine is technically a mermaid but it stops mid thigh then goes out. And I saw one that the entire bottom was detachable!! You can really get down in that dress!!!

    Have you looked at trumpet styles? Here's mine... I didn't want a mermaid for that same reason, plus didn't really want my butt on full display Smiley winking I think this shows curves without being restrictive.

    I did try on a trumpet, but felt kind of frumpy in it. Maybe it was because it was like 6 sizes too big on me. I'm only 5'0 tall, so I'm not sure where how one that actually fits me would feel

    Mine is a mermaid and it was the only gown I didn't feel restricted in! (I am petite as well) The ballgown was so heavy I could barely walk, I tried on a lace gown that literally felt like a table cloth. lol. The mermaid felt so light and airy! I think it was the material. I love to dance so it was important for the dress to be non restricting! Do you already have your dress? I would suggest at least trying a few on because I had ruled them out because of my height/body type and I ended up loving it!

    I have tried a couple mermaids on but haven't found one I love in my budget. I'll be going again in a month or so to see if I can find anything special.

    See I was thinking of doing the same thing. I just don't want to break my budget on buying two dresses.

    Oh yes. I wanted mine more of a mermaid and my seamstress pinned it and had me walk around in it. I decided to keep the trumpet shape. I'm all for beauty over comfort, but I couldn't even sit down...

    I got a fit and flare for that exact reason. I was sooooo HYPE on getting a mermaid gown but when I tried those on and did my beyonce booty hop I didn't like how I couldn't "Get Low low low low". Lol.

    I can soooo do the beyonce booty hop in my fit and flare.

    Hahaha Talayia. I'm gonna be the girl in the salon that pops all of the clips off the dress just trying to dance in it right there.

    Kirsten and T- I danced all around the salon to test my dress. Mine is a trumpet style Marisa and I seriously jumped all over the place in it in the salon. And Kirsten, its so hard with the big sizes! I'm 5'7" and it was hard to get a feel for dresses that aren't in your size Smiley sad

    Oh my goodness, that dress is freaking gorgeous! I love the lace around the neckline. And it really is hard! I went to a salon that only had one of each dress and the girl helping me was like "Yeah, because our place is so small, we have to order one dress that will fit every woman somehow."

    Talayia, don't booty bop too hard or your girls are gonna spill out of that dress! ;-P

    (I'm just jealous cause I'm a lifetime member of the itty bitty titty committee.)

    @Talayia girl you better work! Lol

    I would suggest trying a fit and flare style. Because you are petite I would not suggest ballgown either. Fit and Flare allows you to show off your figure without being so restrictive.

    I got a fit & flare, even that feels restricted on me...

    The trick? before you sit down pull the dress up a bit and it actually gives you wiggle room lol..

    also, when you try the dress on, move around in it. Get low, raise your hands, spin around, jump, sit, bend etc. itll really give you a feel on what the dress will be like with movement

    @KirstenMichelle: Lol. Thats fine. I didn't care that I may have looked like an idiot "dropping it like it hot" while I was trying to feel the dress out. You want to make sure absolutely love your dress! :-)

    @Mizangi- Surprisingly the girls were pretty secure. Lol. I decided to try out the strapless bra from Davids Bridal and I loved it. It was very light weight and I didn't feel like I was suffocating in it like I do with some strapless bras.

    @KochBride: That dress is ADORABLE!

    @FutureMrsWalden: YESSSS GIRL! Lol. :-)

    @KatieDMD: Thank you! :-)

    Mine was labeled as a sheath gown and it was hard to dance in. I like the look, but it definitely wasn’t the most comfortable dress!
