Feeling confused about wedding dress shopping!

Katelin, on October 30, 2015 at 12:08 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 10

I've recently started looking at wedding dresses and I'm feeling really conflicted. I've always pictured myself in a princess ballgown with lots of bling.

But I asked my FH what he would like to see me in and he wants a totally plain, strapless, form-fitting dress. I wouldn't mind a more form-fitting dress but I definitely still want a lot of sparkle. He says the gems will look cheap on a wedding dress.

What do I do to make us both happy? Do dresses exist that have a ton of sparkle on the top and maybe more plain on the bottom that is form-fitting yet princess-looking? Help! What do I look for on my $500 budget?

I would say go to davids bridal or a store like itvand try on every sillouette. Your FH will think your beautiful in whatever you choose.

I agree. If you feel amazing he'll think you look amazing.

Plus guys sometimes really have no idea how to describe what they like properly.

You can wear plain form fitting strapless dresses for your whole honeymoon. Smiley winking

Okay I will start to expand my dress horizons. I've only tried on big poufy gowns so I'll need to see what I look like in other silhouettes.

Uhhh why are you letting FH dictate what your dress looks like? It's YOUR dres . He will marry you regardless of what dress you like. This is why I get annoyed with shows like Say Yes to the Dress. The bride will love a dress so much and she'll be in tears and is about to say yes. Then out of nowhere her teenage cousin twice removed steps in and says she doesn't like it so bride vetos it because she wants everyone to like it. SMH

Hi! My husband also asked me to wear something form fitting. Originally I wanted a tea-length style, but when I tried on mermaid styles, I liked them more Smiley smile

For the bling, one option would be to get a simpler dress but complement it with a blingy, sparkly sash. Also, I've seen dresses where the neckline is heavily beaded and the rest of the dress isn't - I tried on one like that at David's Bridal. Good luck!

Your FH will not even be looking at your dress, he will be looking at you. He will love you no matter what dress you choose. And bling can look cheap if it is over the top and gaudy. Try something more simplified and elegant. Davids Bridal can be a great help with this.

Honestly, he is going to think you look beautiful in anything you choose. So choose something that makes you feel beautiful!

To answer your question- YES there are dresses with embellished bodices and more simple trains/skirts. Being said- get what you like that makes your face light up. He'll love seeing YOU even if it was a burlap sack.

Have you looked at lace? it's really elegant and tends to need less glitz and still looks super fabulous.

Just try on different styles and choose the one that you really love. He will think you are gorgeous on your wedding day, no matter what. I used to watch SYTTD at home, and FH would always comment that he liked the fitted satin dresses with ruching. Well, my dress is all lace. And I'm not worried about whether or not he will like it... He is marrying me, the dress is just the package I'll be wrapped in. Lol

I have a really big feeling that when you say sparkly he has this picture in his head that isn't at all what you are imagining. I wouldn't focus on what he's saying too much, because I'm pretty sure once he sees you all done up he's going to love it regardless of what you're wearing.

That being said, your description really sounds like my dress so I'm going to post it. It's a mermaid with sparkle at the top, and not plain, but beaded lace throughout the rest of the dress. So lots of sparkle, but no "gems" (except at the top). It also has buttons all the way down the back, so I think it's about as princessy as you can get with a fitted dress. I bought it as extra stock for $810, it retails for $1250. you might be able to find a used one for around $500
