Feeding Vendors?

Ashley, on January 14, 2019 at 7:28 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 30
I have been browsing through local wedding venues, and one that has a catering partner listed pricing for vendors meals. This threw me a bit because I didn't think of that at all, I didn't think we would have to provide food for vendors that would be there throughout the reception like photographers.
Is it a general thing that we pay for vendor meals as well, or is this out of the ordinary?

It is commonplace to feed the vendors, yes.

It’s pretty standard to feed your vendors and most have it in their contracts that it’s a requirement. We fed our wedding planner and her assistants, DJ, and photographer and her assistants. Our vendor meals were only $35 compared to $135 for guests.

You usually have to pay for any outside vendors, our vendor had a photographer but we had already booked ours and since they’re considered an outside vendor we pay for their meal, but it’s usually at a discounted price.

You should definitely feed those who are there for any considerable length of time! Like Kelly said, most places have vendor pricing for food and it is often in their contract that food is expected.

Wow, I don't know why I didn't think of that then. None of the other venues I've looked at listed vendor meal prices so I think I just didn't think of it.
    Thanks!

No problem. It’s one of those things that you don’t think about until later. But in my experience a well fed vendor is going to be a lot happier while working!

Is it normal for our venue not to have vendor priced meals?

    Some venues don’t. I wouldn’t say there’s a normal.

I would ask your vendors though if they want a meal. We were planning on it for all and our photographer has it in her contract, but my musicians declined when I reached out about meal selection. You should definitely offer but you might be surprised, and while it's not a huge sum it is nice not to have to provide 4 extra meals if they are unwanted.

My only vendors that would have been fed was the photographers, but they declined the meal. Our minister was also a guest at the reception (friends aunt).

I've looked at probably 30 venues so far and only 2 have specified different pricing for vendors.

Definitely feed any vendors that are there through the meal time. I can't imagine you'd be happy if they left your venue to go get their dinner and it's hard to pack a meal without knowing what they have access to. (For example, I take my lunch to work normally but if I have to travel for work then they cover my meals)

My venue who provides the catering, as well, includes feeding the vendors. I did see it in my photographers contract that they will require it.

Some vendors have this on their contract, others don’t but is nice to offer. If you have a vendor for 8 hours (DJ for example) plus set up time and break down time, they need to eat. Most catering have a special price for vendors meal which is a lot less than what you pay for your guest.

Yes. Unless vendors state otherwise (I have a couple that specifically state no food required or requested) its a general courtesy to feed them as they'll be there thr whole time without anything.
