Father/Daughter & Mother/Son dance - Combining them

Laura M, on March 4, 2014 at 12:01 PM Posted in Planning 0 21

I want to combine them, i don't want my guests to have to sit there through 3 or 4 separate dances so I need to find a song that works for both sets, any ideas?

Anyone else combining them? What song did you pick?

I recommend My Wish by Rascal Flatts- both FH's mom and my dad loved it, but we ended up going with different songs because not both of them could have it Smiley smile

I love the Iz version! So pretty.

What a Wonderful World is a classic, and works for either dance.

Fh doesn't want to do a mother/son dance, and my dad and I are probably going to dance to Somewhere Over the Rainbow/What a Wonderful World by "Iz" (Israel Kamakawiwo'ole).

We actually combined our first dance, mother/son & father/daughter all in one dance. My dad & his mom cut in a little over halfway through our first dance.

Just want to say THANK YOU. As much as I get how important parent dances are to a lot of people, it's so hard as a guest to sit through so many dances. Thank you!

I plan on doing this. I was going to cut them out completely, but FMIL wants to dance with FH. Thanks for posting. I have added this to my watch list!

Didn't realize how popular it was, but my FMIL also picked What a Wonderful World. We're doing the mother/son and father/daughter dances at the same time as well.

We also wanted to combine them or cut them out completely, but FH's mom emailed us gushing about a song she had picked! (which is actually My Wish by Rascal Flatts, a song my FH HATES) We are letting her have her way because she sounded so excited about it, but cutting the dances to 60-90 seconds each. And I will probably do a Sinatra song with my dad!

So my advice is to present the combined dance as their option, and not ask about it if you want to go this way Smiley smile

I told FH about this idea as we are both shy and even though our wedding will have just family we don't like all eyes on us. I love the idea! We need to pick a song as well, adding this to my watch list. I thought about Sade By Your Side for us FH surprising hasn't heard it.

This is actually a really awesome idea that I think I shall steal!! My dad doesn't dance, at all. Having a 3 or 4 min dance while uncomfortable is like an eternity for him so maybe combining them will be better for him. Thanks for the idea Laura! Adding this to my watchlist too Smiley smile

We also did both at once and used "In My Life" by the Beatles.

We're considering it. One song that popped in my head was Here Comes the Sun!
