Father-Daughter Dance that focuses on the Dad?

Katebonnykate, on May 28, 2010 at 11:09 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 16

Hi,

This is my first forum post. We're just lining up the DJ for our wedding next year, and the subject of the father-daughter dance came up. I'm finding that a lot of the songs focus on the daughter... examples include "My Girl," "You Got It," "Butterfly Kisses" (which I really don't want to use), etc. I would rather have the song we dance to reflect my appreciation for my dad, since the whole day is about me and my hubby-to-be.

So far, I love the lyrics to Amy Grant's "My Father's Eyes," but I'm not thrilled about the vocals/music. (Oddly enough, since I usually like Amy Grant.)

I'm very open when it comes to tempo. Any ideas?

Ooh... good song... I'm just worried that the tempo is too slow and my dad would get awkward. He's not the biggest dancer and sometimes the slowest tempos can be the hardest.

Thats a good point maybe you could ask him to pick his song?? that way he can feel a part of things planning wise

I'm doing Stealing Cinderella by Chuck Wicks. It's focused on the dad, it makes me tear up every time I listen to it.

Yeah... I'm trying to give him a few choices with different tempos... fast, slow, medium. Smiley smile Then we can talk about it and figure out if we need a dance class or something!

I'm having the same problem you are! I loved that song too but I could not STAND the vocals, I keep finding that with a lot of songs. Great lyrics = bad vocals [well, not technically 'bad' just not my style? idk]

    So I'm stumped!

Hey- If you love "my father's eyes" you should check out the original by Eric Clapton. (I'm assuming Amy Grand did a version of it- but the original is a gorgeous song!!)

I am going to use Daddy's hands by holly dunn. I am an older bride and have kids so this definitely is an understanding at this point in my life.

@ LauraLovesYou, actually, I thought the same when I saw the title, but it's a totally different song! I looked into the Clapton, but it's really more about having a son than a daughter and more about becoming a parent than getting married.

@Nicci, beautiful lyrics, but I'm not much of a country gal. Just personal preference. Thanks for the rec, though! @Jeanette, that one's a little better, but still too country for me.

I tend to prefer the folk side of country, if anything. It gets a little less... twangy, for lack of a better word. I usually don't have a problem with the music. It's the vocals I don't tend to care for, particularly when they do that little country twist/twang. Is there a music term for that?

Im either doing cinderella by steven curtis chapman, or i loved her first by heartland. im only hesitating cuz i love the lyrics to heartland but im not crazy about the vocals... but i love both with cinderella. lol. but i think i loved her first is geared a little more toward the dad. hes saying, mine! lol
