Father daughter dance song? Help!

LauraM, on April 3, 2016 at 11:04 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 19

Now, it's not what you think. Im not asking about the typical bride with her father dance song. My daughter's father has never been involved in her life. It's a long story and I won't go into detail. My FH is planning on adopting my daughter once we tie the knot. We will likely somehow incorporate her into the ceremony with her own special ring. BUT I would like the two of them to have a special dance at the reception. Any ideas on songs for this moment? Has anyone else done this?

I do not see an issue with it. My son is not my FH's but he will be involved in the bridal party as a grooms man. We will actually have a family dance all of us.

He didn't have to be by Brad Paisley would be a good one. It isn't super slow though so it may not work, not sure. I think this is a cute idea!

This is so sweet! I'm using "How Sweet It Is" by James Taylor for my father-daughter dance, that song works for almost everything Smiley smile

Phil Collins - You'll be in my Heart, from Tarzan. I'm adopted and using it as my father-daughter dance song, but it would work well in this situation also.

I was adopted when I was 3, so I don't even really know my biological father. I chose "Thank you for loving me" by Bon Jovi as my father daughter song. I also like "i'll stand by you" the pretenders.

I think that this is adorable! And she will feel so special to get her own ring! I would keep whatever you pick on the lighter side of things since she is young. While I love the song, "He Didn't Have to Be" by Brad Paisley (suggested above), that song is from an adult perspective and might be a little too serious and detract from your daughter's special moment. Maybe you should ask your daughter what she would like to dance to? It might be cute for her and your FH to pick it together!

OMG. Have you heard Kelly Clarkson's "Piece by Piece"? Given the story, I don't think there would be a dry tear in the house.

I love that you want to incorporate a father/daughter dance for you FH and daughter! "When You Need Me" by Bruce Springsteen is a good option, but I also love Beutivant's suggestion of "Piece by Piece" there really won't be a dry eye in the house with whatever song you choose!

It's not the most typical song, but what about Father and Daughter by Paul Simon? I'm actually dancing to that with my Dad, its super cute and very much a "I'll always be there for you" song. And I think its AWESOME that your FH wants to do that for your daughter. Totally a keeper Smiley smile

This is such an amazing idea and totally got me all teary eyed thinking about the sentiment. "Isn't she lovely", by Stevie Wonder would be a sweet upbeat song that says a lot to a little girl.

The actual lyrics to Kelly Clarkson's song are a bit conflicted with this. It talks about her father leaving her and constantly letting her down. It's beautiful, but I'm not sure it really fits.

NenaBear I kinda feel the same about the Kelly Clarkson song, I had never heard it and decided to listen to it. It's a great song, dont get me wrong. I just don't want her "real dad" to have any kind of attention in this moment. (Not sure if attention is the right word or not) I feel like the lyrics to pieces by pieces are focused on the father who abandoned her. I want the song to be meaningful for my FH and my daughter, if that makes any sense! Lol
